No changes in the Pac-5 top five. Los Alamitos drops two spots to No. 8. Newport Harbor enters the top 10 this week after defeating the Griffins.
Bishop Amat is up one spot.
There is a Trinity League team ranked ninth … and it isn’t Mater Dei, Orange Lutheran, St. John Bosco or Santa Margarita.

Here are the links to check all of this week’s CIF football rankings:
These rankings warrant no respect when it is obvious that Dana Hills has a 5-1 record over Newport Harbor 4-2 and Dana Hills beat Newport Harbor 41-7.
Is it possible that the voters on this ranking can be bribed or swayed to vote without looking at true standings? How much credibility can you give this? ZERO.
My two biggest concerns are Dana Hills and San Clemente. Can anybody please tell me why they are not both ranked in the top ten? A lot has been said about Dana already and rightly so after their tough win over the Titans. But then look as San Clemente who also has a 5-1 record and a rockin QB not to mention an easy win last week over Aliso Niguel. Both of these teams will be solid competitiors with Mission Viejo for a South Coast League title.
JSERRA AT 9 WHEN DANA IS OUT!!!
DANA IS RANKED
Jserra and NH have no business being there in front of Dana
Dana Hills is ranked 10th in the State by Maxpreps and 100th in the nations and didnt break the top 10 in the CIF Southern Section (Pac-5). This is why I questions these rankings:
Dana Hills beat Newport Harbor (badly), Newport Harbor barely beats Los Al.
And JSerra at 9. Are you kidding me? JSerra beats Santa Margarita. Dana Hills also beat Santa Margarita and you have J.Serra ranked over Dana Hills. Who else has J.Serra beat?
Also note that Dana Hills also beat Tesoro (defending South Coast League Champs) last week.
I have to agree with the previous posters…These CIF rankings are not credible.
Good for JSerra. They deserve it. It may not last, but they have FAR more class than Mater Dei from my experience. I know classiness is not what the poll is about, but it needs to be mentioned. The rest of the Trinity League needs to stop ignoring them. (I’m a dad from one of the other Trinity league teams.)
JSerra. Really? They are basically a second bye week for the other teams on this list. They just won their 1st league game – ever – and now they are Top 10 in the Pac 5. Who votes on this stuff??
It is week 6, these rankings don’t men a thing. Nice to recognize JSerra, will Dana be 8-1 when it plays mission in the last game? Will Newport win 2 more games in the Sunset? OLu beats Mater Dei and can’t crack the top 10? Can Servite finally beat the RED team?
It is what it is-opinions-lets see after week 9
Hey, don’t take this so serious comrades. It’s for entertainment purposes only. You are all basically right on your observations. We will really know more about the truth around the final 2 weeks of the schedules.
Dave, it is NOT entertaining. If you want entertaining, then why not put # 1 Garden Grove (6-0)? They have a clean record, too?
Because someone is trying to buy their team into a so-called respectable spot and hope that the readers are stupid enough to fall for it.
Tustin is 5-1, so is Cypress, Villa Park, Fullerton, and St. Margarets. Where are these teams in the ENTERTAINING section of the CIF Top ten? Clearly they didn’t have the right connections.
As I said, who is swaying coaches to pick their team to look good? It’s obviously so full of bias that it does not deserve space in any credible newspaper. Well, maybe you can put this in the National Enquirer next to the latest UFO has Michael Jackson’s baby article.
Besides the OCVarsity Top 10 and the LATimes Top 25, there is also Maxpreps which put up these rankings this week based on a computational score (NO bias):
1 Edison
5 Mission Viejo
7 Servite
18 Dana Hills
13 Los Alamitos
25 La Habra
27 Fountain Valley
40 Newport Harbor
48 Orange Lutheran
62 Mater Dei
(the numbers are their state rankings)
And here is the Massey Ratings, also computerized based on weight of schedule, Offense power, defense power. Again, no personal and/or subjective influence:
Massey Top 14
1 Edison
2 Mission Viejo
3 Servite
14 Los Alamitos
16 Fountain Valley
18 Dana Hills
35 La Habra
38 Mater Dei
39 Orange Lutheran
41 Newport Harbor
67 Tesoro
69 San Clemente
70 Esperanza
(again, these are state rankings)
Where is JSerra? No where. PERIOD!
Jserra is ranked 64 in Maxpreps say out the whole rankings ahha
And just so you know, here are the OC schools that made the LATimes Top 25: (they may be pulled to the LA persuasion, but at least we see some consistency in order and top teams in the OC region.
LA TIMES TOP 25
Week of Oct 19
3-Edison
5-Servite
9-Mission Viejo
16-Fountain Valley
18-Los Alamitos
22-Dana Hills
Where is JSerra?
NO WHERE
What a joke they made of the OC Register.
OC Register didnt put JSerra in top 10, they just reported the CIF SS list, which is from my understanding a mix of coaches and writers from the Southern Section. Exactly who and where they are from I have never seen in information on. What a Joke for those who voted.
yall hate hard its highschool football, these kids work hard for real and all the have to look at is all u guys hating on them, these ranking are based on the coaches i think so they might have seen something yall are trippin over rankings from the first week of league we will see if these teams are all for real. stop hating all these teams have done somethin good this year….and as far as Jserra you guys will never get off their back first they couldnt win a game, next they couldnt win a trinity league game, and now they only beat sm, they played a horrible game against them wit 3 turnovers and still won, all these teams deserve to be here and i think the voters know more than us
If they EARNED the position, there would have been NO comments. No one is complaining about Edison being there. But JSerra only got in the top ten because they had an easy pre-league schedule. 6-0 is how you got there by beating weak teams not even ranked. After Lutheran wins Friday, this list is history.
What’s going to happen to Dana’s rankings when San Clemente beats them this Friday? Think about that . San Clemente has always had a great team and If you look back at who they have lost to , and how close those games were — ie. Tesoro, M.V. (I can’t say their name)La Habra,Servite. These are all different years by the way. You will agree with me that they are one or two big wins away from being highly ranked.
Not this time.
Joe, what you need to contemplate is where will Dana go on the charts after it demolishes San Clemente, and after Tesoro beats Mission Viejo. Chew on that for a while.
Dana 38, San Clemente 14.
Joe, Care to adjust your prediction?
It’s obvious these folks have not done their homework, SHAME! As a 12 year fan of Dana Dolphin football Coach Melbon has assembled the fittest, strongest, leanest, well balanced team I have seen yet. Don’t underestimate Aliso Niguel and Capo Valley after the performances against San Clemente and Mission last friday night. It could very well be Dana and Mission for the championship the final regular season game. Tesoro and San Clemente will be out for blood this week!
We will soon see! Mr. Anonymous.S.C. Has a pretty darn good offense. But for your sake You gotta hope they can pull it off after loosing for 17 yrs. in a row and this will be their best chance.
I hope SC likes losing in front of Dana’s 5000 cheering fans at Dana’s Homecoming. Dana ALWAYS close the gates before half-time because it gets too crowded… except for the visitor section. Ha!
JSERRA WILL BEAT ORANGE LUTHERAN!
Joe hows your hangover. your pretty darn good offense ran into a dam good defense. the only excitement that came from San Clemente was during their warm ups. They come out with half the student body suited up, crisp lines, hitting the pads not missing a beat. For a second there I thought I was watching kids trying out for a high school musical part. San Clemente, Loose the pregame scare tactics, it only makes you look bad when you get beat down 37 to what ever you ended up scoring. To be honest, I left after the 3rd quarter, Your “Darn good offense” bored me. Way to go DANA. Hank, your comments are dead on. This Dana team wears teams down, then puts them away. Dana is a very well conditioned team. Oh yeah, San Clemente, The whooooooooooooo chant you do while warming up. Leave that to the girls softball team where that kind of cheerleading belongs. And no, I don’t have anything against girls softball, so back away from your keyboards.
