The best games on the Week 6 schedule:

No. 11 Tustin (4-1) vs. No. 25 Canyon (2-3)
Thursday, at Tustin High, 7 p.m.

Outlook: A lot has been written about the Tustin offense, and it has all been deserved, but have you been paying attention to the defense?

Aside from the Kennedy game (28 points) and the loss to Orange Lutheran (46 points), the Tillers have allowed 12, 3 and 0 points in three of their victories.

Anthony Wilkerson leads the county in rushing (1,036 yards) and rushing touchdowns (17). He is averaging 29.5 carries a game. I’m not sure if can be stopped.

Canyon might be the tough-luck team of the season. The Comanches have lost two games by one point, and last week they lost by eight to Laguna Hills.

Tustin was the preseason pick to win the Century League title. Canyon was tabbed to place second.

Quarterback Beau Perry will lead the offense against the Tillers. He has completed 48 of 84 passes (57.1 percent) for 666 yards, with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Nick Prescott has caught eight of his touchdown passes.

The duo is going to have to have a big night against the Tustin defense.

Canyon would like to forget the two meetings with Tustin last season.

The Tillers won the regular-season game, 42-13, and the playoff contest, 63-28.

Will we see another one-sided affair?

  • Papa Z says:

Usually if you can throw on Tustin you have a chance(example El Dorado last year.)however this year’s defense is nails. Gonna be real tough.

  • bighsfootballfan says:

All eyes on wilkerson for this Canyon defense. so somebody better pick it up on the tillers passing game , or lack there of……..if Canyon can hanfg in there till 4th quarter keepin it close they might close it out but how do you go against a team with i think 1st team all-american.tillers 35 Canyon 28

  • Country says:

The boys might start off rusty coming off a bye week. I hope they’ve kept themselves active during that time. Blow out.

  • LemB says:

Bye week, wet field, Canyon’s D is pretty good at times.. could be closer than people think.. a few turnovers and you could be looking at an a major upset. I think I will go to this one

  • Lhhman says:

Anthony is too much for Canyon. And like LemB says, Canyon D is good and bad – and I think Wilkerson will show the bad. But Canyon will probably get 2 or 3 TDs. I predict Tustin 35 – 14 over Canyon.

  • Canyondad says:

    Canyon 27 Tustin 20

  • MJ says:

Wilkerson will be %100 and he’s rested. Tustin’s on a mission, and they’re not about to lose to a cream-puff team like Canyon. Tustin’s too big, strong, and fast for Canyon. They may have a moment or two, but this is league play and Miller ALWAYS has the Tillers and that vaunted offense ready to steamroll the competition. Canyon doesn’t want to get beat up physically all night. And the second Mr. Wilkerson pops a big one, light’s out! Game over! Good night!

    Tillers by 28….at least.

  • Canyondad says:

    second Mr. Wilkerson?

  • Canyondad says:

By the way the game is Thursday not Friday.

  • bighsfootballfan says:

i dont know what you watch MJ but “vaunted” offense…you mean the one man show with a couple of solid o lineman……..please catch me up to speed because im missing something certainly…..Total passing yards for this Vaunted offense .you fill in the number…….Yes best back in the county but vaunted offense .see how it killed them against La Habra last year your one man show.its coming to bite all ya Tiller fans again…….Im certain of that unless they do something about it and they have time but do they have the talent???????

    • MJ says:

      bighsfootballfan,

“Ten men block so that one may run”—-Coach Miller

It’s always a TEAM SPORT ‘big’. How do you think Anthony Wilkerson’s the best RB in the county? It’s because he gives credit where credit’s due: the o-line! Duuuhhhh! It’s simple.

For an offense that piles a mountain of rushing yards the way Tustin has done, just about every game for the past 15 years; I’d say that’s pretty vaunted whether they pass the ball enough or not. And Tustin ALWAYS has the talent…can’t believe you had the nerve to even question Tustin’s talent. WAKE UP!

Tillers by 28…at least. See you at The Show tonight!

  • whatshisname says:

mj your missing something here. hes allready had the hammy injury, which allways seem to linger, and its wet tonight, which coulod affect traction, which could aggrevate bad muscle. what happens, god forbid if he goes down. you dont have webb this year and his backup hardly plays, just keepin it real for ya young stud, wouldnt want you to go off the deep end.

  • Pass the ball ENOUGH???? They dont pass at all…. Look.Last year they had a really good talent…………alot better talent than this year for sure…………and it didnt get them to the end of the rainbow.and believe me you it will not get them there this year AGAIN because they do not have neither a vaunted offense nor a decent defense and a good not great Canyon team will expose that tonight maybe not enough to win cuz im pickin Tustin but Tustin will be exposed to all their league foes of their weakness and mainly no passing game at all none, nada, nil watch and see and dont go bellowing to Miller afterwards bellow NOW while there is time to change at the very least some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • canyondad says:

I agree that they don’t have the talent they did last year. Robinson was a beast and Webb a major threat if AW wasn’t running. I don’t think their defense is as good as last year. Tustin will be surprised by Canyon’s D tonight

      • MJ says:

What a surprise!!!! Where is it??!! Canyon’s D surprise is on it’s way back to their campus along with an “L”.

Now, lets talk about Tustin’s D. 4 int’s and only 6 points allowed. Case closed. Good night.

        • Country says:

C’mon Man! You gotta give Canyon’s D props for making several big stops last night. Stuffed Wilkerson on a 4th & 1 in the 1st half. And forced several 3 & outs in the 2nd half. If all the stats are right. They held us to 288 total offensive yards (And that’s with Wilkerson). Which is the best anyone has done this season so far. Hell, it’s even better than what OLu did, holding a Wilkerson-less team to 293 total yards.

And would you look at that. We threw more passes last night than El Dorado and Cypress. lol.

    • MJ says:

So, Tustin basically covered the 28 point spread I said they’d win by. AND, they actually PASSED the ball effectively in the first half. Now how’s that for exposure!!??

Hope you enjoy putting your foot where your mouth is…..

      TILLERS!

  • canyondad says:

    I changed my prediction
    Canyon 27
    Tustin 14

  • canyondad says:

Actually it was 5 interceptions, 3 in the endzone I think and one returned for a TD, did not see that coming. I’ll give you credit on Tustin’s D tonight, but Canyon’s D wasn’t the problem tonight.
Considering all the turnovers Canyon had, the D played pretty well. I think AW will get alot more against the rest of the Century League opponents. See you in the playoffs..(hope we are on the other side of the bracket!)

  • Country says:

I’m expecting a better offensive showing next week, even though it’s against a pretty good VP defense. Looking at that video. Wilkerson didn’t look too happy (obviously due to the fumbles and the offense stuttering in the 2nd half). He and the rest of the offense will be looking to take it out on VP.

  • Southwest Div. Fan says:

Just read the Tustn game article. Couple of interesting facts:

“The offense and the defense are the same guys, but I’m proud of the plays we made on defense,” Miller said.

Two way players will catch up with the Tillers in the 4th quater in the big games during play-offs. Just my opinion.

“The Tillers played the second half without junior defensive lineman Faitele Faafoi, who sat out with a knee injury.”

It may already be catching up to them. Hope the injury isn’t serious. The Tillers play with a small roster. Injuries can play havoc on their game plan.
