La Habra finishing non-league play as no. 8 in the county is great for the Freeway league and the CIF Southwest DIV. If more of the top teams in the Southwest can schedule PAC-5 teams in the future, I believe the Southwest will have more success against the big boys. Familiarity breeds contempt and the Southwest needs familiarity with the PAC-5 to garner success. If the Southwest wants to get parity with the PAC-5 the Southwest has a long way to go. It may never happen, but, I would love to see, Tustin, El Dorado, Villa Park, Cypress, Trabuco Hills, in the top 10 as well as LH. Peace.

UH…my friend, I think it could happen for the Southwest and other divisions as there are many fine young coaches throughout the state that are coming into OC because of the talent and exposure. They come here witrh no preconceived fears of competing with the best. Times are achangin,

  • UHwarrior says:

Guild- There are certain Southwest Div. programs that have had great success way back in the day against the likes of Los Al, Fountain Valley, Edison, Esperanza. Those teams were El Dorado, Tustin, Villa Park, Loara, El Toro. I like to see these teams rise again in terms of OC top 10. Remember, there was time when mighty Los Al and tough Esperanza were in Empire league, battling every year with El Do, and Loara for the league championship.

Times are achangin. Where is Esperanza going to end up? with the openning of the new Yorba Linda HS? and the league realignments. Word has it that this maybe Esperanza’s last year in the Sunset league. Too bad, a great league rivalry between Espy and LosAl will be a thing of past.

    • The Guild says:

UH_With these zero week games being scheduled it would make sense from a couple of aspects for those rival games to be scheduled, if it still promotes positive exposure and are competitive games, which they would be.

    • Country says:

Esperanza and Foothill are joining the new Century league. So I assume that means Espy also joined the Southwest division. Which means the SW just got even tougher for everyone else. Remember this is a young Espy team this year. If they finish in the Sunset top 3 this year. Watch out for them next year!

Tustin joins the Empire league with the new Yorba Linda school & Western. But Western appeal this decision in hopes of staying in the Orange league. So I’m not sure if Western is still in it or not.

Trabuco & El Toro leave for the 10 team South Coast Conference. I guess they’re going to use the results of this season to determine where to place teams next year. I’ve read something about splitting it into two leagues (Sea View & South Coast), one league for the strong teams and the other for the weaker teams. So if Trabuco finishes strong this year. They’ll probably be placed in the tougher league with MV, Dana, Tesoro, etc. to fill that tough league.

  • UHWarrior says:

Country- thanks for the information, wow, the CIF divisions are going to have a different look in the next coming years.

I had heard that the Esperanza coach is now going to be the new Yorba Linda school coach, so this will be his last year at ESPY.

If Tustin joins joins the empire league with the new Yorba Linda school along with a strong Western squad (don’t let their non-league record fool you, they’ll make the playoffs after league play). The empire league will be very tough.

Too bad the Freeway league isn’t changing, I’d like to see some more quality clubs challenge La Habra.

    • Country says:

“I had heard that the Esperanza coach is now going to be the new Yorba Linda school coach, so this will be his last year at ESPY.”

So he’s leaving to join Bailey and most of his staff from El Dorado.

The new league alignments starts up next year (2010-2011).
