La Habra and San Clemente played what might be the game of the season, and perhaps one of the best of the decade, on Friday night, with the Highlanders pulling out a 29-28 victory in the final seconds.
La Habra running back Josh Quezada scored three touchdowns and had 249 yards rushing, while the Tritons’ David Espino scored two TDs. See highlights from the game, including the thrilling ending, plus postgame comments in this video by OCVarsity.com’s Jonathan Khamis.
Gotta tell you folks who missed this game ive been too alot of the Highlander games and this ranks right there wit one of the best, both teams trying to knock each others heads off, Chase Rettig from SC is the real deal his pocket presence is second to none for OC high school QB’s, and Josh”Juice” Quezada is a bruising deliver a lick type runner who can carry the load 32 carries against a team that laid some licks on him , GREAT GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was one of the best games I have seen in a long time. Two very well coached teams going at it until the very end. The San Clemente QB was deadly accurate with his passes all night, except for the one mistake he made that cost SC an INT for a La Habra TD.
La Habra RB Josh Quesada is unbeleivable. He is lightning quick when he hits his holes and punishes tacklers that happen to get in his way, he is no doubt a D1 prospect.
The only thing that was dissapointing for the night was how very few fans SC brought to the game, I guess the drive was too far, what a shame.
Looks like Quesada is a great person on and off the field. See how he goes to greet his fans?! Pretty awesome.
need q to start playing a little d leading up to playoffs any word on porter
Broken tibia
Juic is quite the charmer with the shorties, his famuky owns and operates a day care center and the kids seem to clamour to all the Quezada family, so your right on point plus i believe he still spends alot of time along with others in La Habras Pop Warner system , and a great program they run over there has generated many a good players to the High School program, that is one of the beauties of the “Pit” the up close and personal side it attracts, without question in my mind the best on campus stadium in OC and LA Counties, even thoug it seems a bit antiquated its perfect just as is!!! again what a game ………………..
Again, what a great game. It came down to the wire with Quezada carrying the highlanders to victory on his shoulders. It is pretty amazing that every opponent knows their main defense assignment is to stop Quezada. The only one’s who came close was Los Al. Los Al, gave up yardage to Quezada, but they didn’t give up points (key factor).
San Clemente also had a great game, if it wasn’t for Rettig’s one big mistake which led to a Highlander touchdown (Way to go D. Sierra!). I hate to say it, but San Clemente would have walked away with another victory. Rettig was impressive in the second half with his pin point accuracy and cannon for an arm. (Edison’s QB D. Wiley is suppose to be better? Unbelievable). San Clemente’s going to do plenty of damage in the Sunset league.
Observation, one of La Habra’s biggest strengths year after year is play hard until the whistle blows. Coach Mazzotta has coached his kids to never give up, never surrender, and play hard. This mentality has served them well, especially last night against a pretty talented SC squad. They could have quit with a little more than a minute and half left in the game, but they didn’t and walked away with an outstanding, memorable victory. Thanks again, coach Mazzotta for giving us fans a great game to watch and be part of. Go Clan!
Yes, I know, San Clemente is in the South Coast League and will play the likes of Tesoro, Mission Viejo, Dana Hills, etc. And yes, I stand by what I say they will do damage.
