
With the first full week of league play getting underway throughout the county, here is a look at some of Tuesday’s results.
In the Sunset League:
No. 2 Newport Harbor 3, Fountain Valley 0: The host Sailors (13-3, 1-0) opened league play with sweep of the Barons 25-8, 25-13, 25-16 behind seven kills from Lauren Demos and six kills from Claire Castillo.
Esperanza 3, Marina 0: The Aztecs (13-5, 0-1) received 15 kills from Chelsea Arnitz and 10 kills from Caitlin Boring to sweep the Vikings (16-5, 0-1) 26-24, 25-11, 25-22 at Esperanza High. Dana Holt passed out 33 assists, while Sydney Barron and Megan Lancaster combined for 28 digs for Esperanza.
In the Trinity League:
No. 5 Orange Lutheran 3, JSerra 0: Despite 14 kills from Nicole Jeschelnik and 25 assists from Haley Thayer, the Lions (8-8, 0-2) fell at home to the Lancers 25-22, 25-19, 25-23.
In the Freeway League:
No. 7 Troy 3, Fullerton 0: Juliana Crum had a team-high 11 kills, while Maddy Barrett added nine kills, as the host Warriors (13-3, 1-0) swept the Indians 25-14, 25-16, 25-18. Jacquie Brice dished out 28 assists, while Nikki Brice had 21 digs for Troy.
In the Orange Coast League:
No. 9 Laguna Beach 3, Godinez 0: Chanel Stewart had a team-best nine kills, and Allison Palmer and Rachele Killian combined for 21 assists, as the Breakers (5-5, 1-0) posted the road sweep of the Grizzlies 25-7, 25-7, 25-10. Marina Paul added 13 digs for Laguna Beach.
In the Empire League:
Kennedy 3, Loara 1: Christina and Sunny Barraza combined for 26 kills, as the Fighting Irish dropped the first set, but rallied for a four set win over the Saxons 27-29, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16 at Kennedy High.
In the Garden Grove League:
Garden Grove 3, Rancho Alamitos 2: The visiting Argonauts (5-2, 1-0) pulled out the five set win over the Vaqueros (5-2, 1-0) 19-25, 25-19, 25-7, 24-26, 15-12.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Beckman 3, Irvine 1: Lydia Bai and Kayla Wong combined for 27 kills, while Laurie Goodman and Holly Kamo combined for 37 assists, as the Patriots (16-5, 1-0) defeated the Vaqueros 25-15, 16-25, 25-11, 25-14 at Irvine High.
In the San Joaquin League:
Saddleback Valley Christian 3, Southlands Christian 0: The host Warriors got 11 kills from Chelsea Duhs and 10 kills from Sara Nadeau to knock off the Eagles 25-12, 25-16, 25-22.
In the South Coast League:
San Clemente 3, Dana Hills 0: Alexa Strange led the Tritons with 14 kills and added 12 assists, while Chelsea Heier produced 36 assists and 11 digs, as San Clemente (6-6, 1-0) swept the Dolphins (5-8, 0-1) in the league opener for both schools 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 at San Clemente High. Molly Yoder helped in the Tritons win with 12 kills and a team-high 13 digs.
