Los Alamitos mad a believer of me beating up on a pretty good La Habra club. the speed of their Defense is awesome and they tackle well i understand the weakness of their schedule but gotta give it up Barnes he got this team believing that they can play and look at the results!!

  • whatshisname says:

cant believe servite ahead of los al . if they met today servite woul have a hard time scoring unless they find a passing game. who ever wins the sunset is playing in state bowl game

  • UHwarrior says:

Big HS- Los Al has a weak schedule? La Habra, Narbonne, Edison, Fountain Valley, Newport Habor? All are winning programs. four of those teams are ranked in the OC top ten. With Narbonne winning the LA City title last year. Is this a weak schedule?

  • Steve Fryer says:

I think Big HS meant the Los Al sked, going into the La Habra game. Los Al beat three teams with a combined record of 3-10. But, yeah, La Habra’s defense is excellent!

  • Yes sir Mr. Fryer thats waht i meant, and i do realize their schedule gets much better/harder from this point on, but their defense really impressed me and especial;ly the speed/quickness but the way all are ranked right now really no argument things have settled alot since opening day and im out this weekend to check out this Mission Viejo squad, boy is this County blessed with some really fine teams and great games!!

    • barry says:

los al is very fortunate to have a coach of John Barnes caliber…it must be a misprint to rank him so low in OC coaches…..go griffins!

  • Jessica says:

cant believe servite is still #3 and Mater Dei is only #10….

  • credo fan says:

Jessica how many games as Mater Dei won? That’s why they are number 10. I look forward to the game between Mater Dei VS Servite. Good look and may the best team win.

    • sing sing - I.E. says:

Why is Mater Dei affraid to travel to the I.E. why don’t you take a page out of the Mission Viejo and Servite book. Get out a map and find the 91 east freeway. Then and only then you will get respect. I.E. fear no O.C. so called powerhouse. Road game or not. Mater Dei will get no respect untill then.

  • keeping it real says:

All I know is the Sunset league is the toughest league in the OC flat out. I think edison will win the league out right, they are playing like a team on a mission. They don’t want to leave any doubt. Watch out Sunset league.

    • madm0nk3y22 says:

right…. have you heard of the trinity league??

      • keeping it real says:

Did you see the TAP dance Edison did on the class of the Trinity league? 23-9 remember that? Or how about our best player being out against mater dei and the refs making up calls. Yeah Id love to see your Mater Dei or Servite play in the Sunset league.

        • The Guild says:

Hey ‘real’, see my blog on Eichelberger’s Top Ten. Don’t disregard the Trinity League just yet. It’s a long season my friend.

  • FV is coming says:

Fountain Valley is still being underrated, but that will just make it better when they show everybody how good they are in league play. No body has yet to stop Kyle Middlebrooks especially since the line is just over powering every team they’ve played. The defense is fast, hard hitting, and very instinctive. If FV is on your schedule you better come ready to play because this team will put you on your back.

  • Sam says:

Hold your horses there FV is coming. Fv always looks better in “pre-league games, only to lose the important ones. When (if) the bell ever finds its way to FV then you can pound your chest.
First you have to beat Edison
Then you have to win a playoff game
Then you can brag a bit.
    Until then.
    Shhhhhhhhhh!!!

  • Dave says:

I think Sam is correct on the “history” in regards to Fountain Valley. It’s still very early, and we do have to agree that the Sunset League is awesome. 3 teams in the top 10 !!. F.V. Offensive line this year is moving defensive linemen away from Middlebrooks, and Edison is well coached and very talented. All I can say is “Go out and buy those Bell Game tickets before it sells out”. I went last year early and there had to be a couple hundred people in line to get in. Mark your calenders for 11-8-09 at OCC.

    • bob says:

I believe the Bell game is 11-6-09 not 11-8-09 or were you attempting to divirt perspective ticket buyers ?

  • joebarons says:

dave is right until we win the bell,we can stay under radar, which is hard when you have very good team last year as you know 5 way tie for first.edison had toughest pre season schedule.ediso is rated 8# in all western region in usa.we by far sunset is not only toughest in oc,but probably in the state.fv needs to cut down on penalties & mistakes to win sunset league, will be fine.we havent won the bell in 5 years.to win league this year we will probably have 2 teams at 4-1

  • bruin4ever says:

Right off the top these three don’t belong on the others: list.

Wilson, Newport Harbor, and Junjipero Serra

Two are living on reputation and one hasn’t done anything to deserve to be on this list.

  • ahahah says:

Bruin4ever….what the teams are doin is winnin and crushin teams it doesnt matter who u play just talk to alabama about Utah…quality teams that will do well when league starts

  • UHWarrior says:

The way things are right now the Sunset league is the toughest so far. It was amazing to see how Los Alamitos handled a very good La Habra team, and to think they might not be the best in the sunset league. Edison, FV and LosAl are all playing quality ball right now. However, the South Coast league isn’t bad either, with Dana Hills, Mission Viejo, and San Clemente playing tough as well, (San Clemente has a challenge with La Habra this week). And who knows maybe Tesoro will surprise everyone.

With the Trinity league down this year, I can see the PAC – 5 champion coming from either the Sunset or South Coast league. I can’t wait for the playoffs.

    • bob says:

      Eh Local kine ! (U of H)
Dana hills could surprise a lot of people if they play 4 quarters each game. I will really be surprised if SC gets past La Habra. The Sunset and the South Coast will be dogfights.

  • hoodedbanker says:

Missing OCN’s coverage of football games right about now. (Yeah, I’m dating myself) Fridays were exceptional. Too bad there is no local television channel that will provide live updates and highlights of OC high school football games.

  • John Conner says:

Sunset will be another great show but Edison will be counted out and win it all by going undefeated playing Esperanza won’t be a test like last year and if everyone is healthy the game between Los Al will be good but pull off a win and easily handle Newport and Marina but with Middlebrooks at Fountain Valley it should be good with his speed but with Edison’s D-line and Zummalt probable of playing just another win for Edison. I really hope it’s Mission Veijo and the Chargers and i can not say much more about how good that game will or might be

  • 1000steps says:

Not sure if the “also receiving votes” is in order. I hope not since Newport is ahead of Dana. I have a 41-7 rout that says otherwise. Respect the Dolphins.

  • Doug says:

Way to early for predictions, top teams are close in talent and very physical games yet to be played, so many possibilities. Best to wait for bracketts then make predictions…

  • whatshisname says:

so who is cypress fan ? their lower levels arent that great, but when they get up to varsity they seem to excell, is that not coaching.and I dont know barnes or am I a los al fan.
