If Servite plays like this against MD, they will lose. As a Friar fan I’ve never seen a team as undisciplined as this Servite team. Hey Thomas, get your guys to stop with the penalties. I stopped counting after 10! It didn’t help that one of the penalties was against YOUR sideline behavior. Also, you have a good quarterback. Let him throw the ball now and then. Your running schemes are too predictable. If you don’t believe me, sit in the stands now and then and listen to all the negative talk coming from the supporters!

Hey Bob, Coaches can’t and shouldn’t listen to negative talk from their fans. They are coaches and fans are only fans. Fans don’t coach and they should know that they don’t know. Just cheer Bob and let the coaches make the decisions. I can’t believe you are not happy with our product this year. We’re 4-1 against the toughest preseason schedule anyone has ever seen! Keep it positive. Thomas is doing a heck of a job.

This team is a good team and the kids are good kids. The problem is with the game plans.

Thomas has a much better than average quarterback that he misuses by having him just hand off to his running back for what is typically a 2-3 yard blast through the middle. – - predictable. Let Cody throw!

Let the kids play. How many times can we jump out to a big lead (Crespi 31 – 0, Chaparell 21 -7) only to then get conservative and let them back into the game. Do that with MD or OL and you end up as the 3rd place team in league.

These kids could be State Champs if Thomas would let them play. I see us as 3-2 in league. Too bad.

I agree Servite Supporter! However, Bob makes a valid point regarding thier play. The team seems to be having a hard time playing four full quarters of disciplined football. But it is exciting to watch!

  • The Guild says:

The concern of many alumni is that this team has tremendous talent that is under utilized and there is an air of arrogance that undermines the spirit of confidence. In other words, coach up to the player’s abilities and demonstrate humility and carry yourselves with quiet confidence…..Mater Dei knows those qualities and wears them well.

  • Alex says:

Bob, the problem is that Servite played a real good team from the Temecula Valley that unfortunately starts out slow but ends up playing ferocious the last 2 quarters. The offensive line lost three Division 1 prospects from last years team and their great success stemmed from their controlling the neutral zone.

  • jeffrey says:

remember that they were playing without chris nichols and jakubiec
but i would have to agree that coach thomas gets way to conservative with the lead
correct me if i am wrong but i dont think that servite has scored in the third quarter all year…

  • THansen says:

The offense is very predictable. As an educated football fan, I was baffled by the play calling in the second half of the Crespi game. Allowing teams back into the game is a bad idea. Servite will lose league games that way. You need to play 4 quarters. I am cool with putting in the subs late in the 4th.
I am afraid that the Servite losing streak (to MD) will continue. I will be at the game and will be happy if I am wrong.

    • The Guild says:

It’s exactly the type of attitude that no self respecting ex Friar player would be afraid of and what Mater Dei fans are quick to use as fodder. Your fear is your demon, my friend. Break out and “Let it go!” What you fervently believe in can come to pass! That being said, let’s believe that Fajardo will pass!

  • credo fan says:

Everyone that has said something about the prediction of Servite is absolutely correct. Let “Farjado Throw”. We come on strong the first half and then do stupid plays the second half. We are toooooo predictable! The first two plays hand off, than throw 3rd and than run up the middle. Anyone with a brain can see that. We have such a talented team that needs to be coach! Dicipline and aggressiveness is the name of the game. Don’t settle the second half, do nothing and then hope the other team doesn’t score!

  • bob jones says:

    Servite Supporter,

As A long-time Servite fan, I also am not the type of fan that looks thru rose-colored glasses. Many of the comments also share my beliefs…LET CODY THROW. If you have that incredible weapon on your side why not use it? Did MD hand off the ball that many times when they had Barkley? How about Edison’s quarterback. Was his arm in a sling when they beat us? When Gallo had Turk Schonert we threw. When Servite had Beurline we threw. We also mixed our running plays so that we had defenses guessing. But if you’re trying to establish a running game well into the late third early fourth quarter, then somethings got to change. Am I happy with a 4-1 record. Of course, who wouldn’t be? But…will you be happy if this team doesn’t win league (again), loses to MD (again), and doesn’t go deep into the playoffs all because CODY DOESN’T THROW! If things don’t change then hold on to that 4-1 memory. It may be the only thing we may have to remember from this season. God help me if I’m wrong.
    Onward Ye Throwing Friars!

I can’t wait to read the comments on this site when Bosco upsets Servite in two weeks.

    Should be good drama then!
