Sea View League
Outlook: Northwood and Woodbridge could be playing for their last girls tennis league championship for the near future. Why is that? The Timberwolves and Warriors join the new league next year that includes county powerhouses Corona del Mar and University. In the meantime, though, these two schools promise to put on arguably the most competitive race for first place. Woodbridge is currently ranked No. 6 in the county; Northwood is No. 7. It doesn’t get closer than that. It sets up much like the boys season, when Northwood defeated Woodbridge twice in the final week to capture the title. The teams won’t have to wait that long with the girls. They met Oct. 6.
2008 singles champion: Courtney Pattugalan (Northwood)
Factoid: Courtney Pattugalan, a junior, is the two-time defending champion.
Prediction (with last year’s playoff result):
1. Woodbridge (lost to University second round)
2. Northwood (lost to Troy second round)
3. Huntington Beach (lost to Harvard Westlake first round)
4. Trabuco Hills
5. El Toro
6. Foothill
