el do is the true number 1
Why should El Do be number 1? They lost a game. And where is Lora ranked at? They should be in there above Kenndey.
hahah eldo come on pacifica beter than eldo pacifica should have won that game if it wasnt for a shank kick come on nowww look at the stats we domanated u guys we have the toughest schedules in that divison come on now pacifica will end up on top they have j serra this week
Yeah, maybe you should win a game before you start talking about Pacifica deserving a spot in the Top 10. You guys shouldn’t even be mentioned in “others,” so consider yourselves lucky.
And good for El Toro, they deserve it.
By the way, just a minor error, Pacifica is in the Empire League.
Guys, Guys, stop arguing!!! we all know whos gonna win it all AGAIN this year. LH end of story.
LH is again the class of the Southwest DIV. they manhandled two solid teams in South Hills and Downey. Their next game at Los Alamitos will be a barn burner. We’ll see how stout the Los Al defense is when they match up against the high powered LH offense. LH put up 44 points against a bigger Downey squad and LH did not have their All county running back for most of the game.
“LH did not have their All county running back for most of the game.”
What happened there ? Injured, flu or just holding him back for Los Al ? I saw that he only carried 9 times and that was it.
Everything looks right.
- Good to see El Toro get their props. Last week they weren’t even mentioned in “others.” Now they’re #9 and seem to be the only threat to Trabuco when league play starts.
- While dropping Pacifica out of the top 10 is the right call. They’re better than Kennedy & Valley. They’re going to finish non-league 1-3-1 record. Yep, that’s right. I said it. You’re going to lose to JSerra and win against Westy. But should still be favorites for the top 2 spots in the Empire league.
- La Habra is the #1 team in the division by a large margin. So that’s not fool ourselves here by claiming this team or that team is the true #1.
That’s me by the way.
I had read that LH’s big stud running back J. Quezada, injured his shoulder in the first quarter against Downey. I guess the coaches felt he needed to rest it. By the outcome of the game the coaches were right.
I’ve been watching the OC HS football scene for several years now, and I admit the top 10 rankings are pretty acurate. The top Ten should be dominated by the “bigger schools” ie. PAC-5 schools. I believe average Mater Dei, Servite, Los Alamitos, Edison, MV, or OLU teams would dominate the lower CIF divisions. With that said it is great to see some “smaller school” teams like La Habra, Tustin, El Dorado, Valencia, Villa Park, Foothill, etc. consistently put out winning programs year after year, considering their talent pool. It would be great for OC HS football to see one of the smaller schools finish in the top three or five at the end of the year. I think La Habra could do just that if they “run the table”. Especially with powerhouse programs like South Hills, Los Al and San Clemente on their schedule.
Western should be up there even though they have been having a really tough start because of the rigor schedule. they will make it back up there! dont count them out
bottom line is lahabra is the best…if quezada can man up and heal by thursday i think lahabra has a very good shot at finnaly beating losal. although i did think that last year too when they had hillman and quezada
la habra is a good team are they a great team????? um, well we will see what they are made of this week, although they are the best team in southwest division can they take that leap to the next level, they are a young club but that shouldnt hurt too much more early in the year they get better weekly, believe this Quezada will play and will be a monster he has geared up for this ghame for a while and will not let the recruiters down, 200 yards 2 scores La Habra finally jumps into the top 5-6 and beats LosAl…………….27-17
what downey found out when juice went out, is clan has the best QB theyve had since daniel morales . Ive siad it before you can focus on stopping josh but clements will kill you when you do.
I don’t know…I think this division would put up a good fight against the PAC-5. Not saying the Southwest is better, just something to think about. La Habra vs Los AL?? La Habra with a definite chance. Cypress vs Mater Dei?? Could not have been any closer. The Southwest Division has got game.
with so many Century league teams i.e Tustin, ELDO, VP, Canyon, all in the top 10. this league season should be pretty intereseting. the standings should go like this
Tustin
Canyon
El Dorado
VP
at the end of the year Tustin will be ranked #1or #2 and depending how canyon plays they can range from anywhere to #3 to #7. as for El Dorado and VP it will be interesting to see how they play. Remember they were picked by the coaches to finish behind Tustin AND Canyon
Having watched Highlander football for the past decade, I can truly say that they are the most impressive group of “O” and “D” linemen I have seen at La Habra. Many are still young, but they will grow as the season goes on. Downey has always had big teams, but this year’s team also had a lot of athletics on both sides of the ball. After a shakey start, LH was able to adjust to their physical game plan and take control of the game. This was in spite of not having running back Josh Quezada for 3 1/2 quarters. In my opinion, Queszada is one of the best RB’s that has come out of the Freeway League in many years as I have followed it.
la habras overrated bottom line there fans just are die hard…and two years ago eldorado ended up 6th in the county after beating a great trabucco hills team..and the century league will have either tustin or eldo on top.. canyon isnt off to the hottest start.. and trabucco this year is one of the teams to beat in this division… the top 4 are very acurate and if any played eachother it would be an amazing game
I agree with you that the top four teams are all good programs, and any one of them can beat each other on any given night. However, I was at the Southwest Div. championship last year and La Habra beat Tustin pretty soundly. I was actually disappointed with Tustin in the finals, last year, and it may be the same this year. Tustin is so one dimensional, once La Habra’s defense shut down Wilkerson, they folded like a house of cards. It was amazing that no one could stop Wilkerson the entire year until the finals. Tustin had no other weapons. I think this year is the same. I actually thought Trabuco Hills, and El Dorado played La Habra tougher in the playoffs. La Habra could be better this year than last years championship team. La Habra’s passing attack is much better than it was last year. La Habra’s speed at the wide out positions is scary fast.
I don’t think Tustin can go undefeated in the Century league this year too many strong programs. However, I think La Habra can go undefeated in the Freeway league (with the possibility of Fullerton challenging), again. I can’t wait for the playoffs.
“It was amazing that no one could stop Wilkerson the entire year until the finals.”
Since when did limiting someone to 230+ yards become stopping him. His 230+ rushing yards was the 2nd or 3rd best numbers he put out in 2008. 300+ on ElDo being #1. The only time he didn’t crack 100+ was against Foothill & OLu. He didn’t play against Foothill. And was held to 40+ on 10 carries against OLu (first game back from a sprain MCL).
“Tustin had no other weapons.”
I know right. Webb’s 1300 + yards and Richardson’s nearly 1000 yards of total offense tack on with another 600+ yards from other players such as Minshew don’t mean jack.
“I think this year is the same.”
It isn’t. No one has step up yet to be the 2nd or 3rd consistent guy on offense this year. We do have something in DiMaio at QB and Coulter at SE. Unfortunately Miller isn’t jumping on that. I’d like to see Miller just go pass happy for an entire game. I’m talking about 20 pass attempts at least. Only seen that once and that was when I was playing back in 99. The numbers were pretty ugly though. 9 -20 for 130+.
“However, I think La Habra can go undefeated in the Freeway league (with the possibility of Fullerton challenging), again.”
Who are you kidding. Of course LH will go undefeated. They shouldn’t even be in that league anymore.
Great points country. In the finals last year Webb was not a factor, Tustin literally threw 3 or 4 passes the entire game? Their passing game is non-existant. That’s what I call one dimensional. Holding Wilkerson to one TD in the finals after he scored, what 4 TD’s in the previous game? Holding him to 230 yards and out of the end zone for most of the game is shutting him down. It’s the same formula this year. Keep Wilkerson out of the end zone, you beat Tustin.
The Century league is much tougher than the Freeway league, I still don’t see Tustin going undefeated in league, that is unless they get a more balanced attack. At this point this year I see La Habra as having a more balanced lethal attack than they had last year. The LH QB, Clements, is a better passer with better accuracy than Nygren was last year, and Nygren was all league. This all makes for a great debate, that’s why I can’t wait for the playoffs. Peace.
La Habra is a complete team top to bottom. Even there kicker is very good. There only weekness is they need something to play for. They have to be down before they can turn it on. The name Los Al is motovation enough. They will play well this week and even if they dont win, They will lay som people out with killer hits and the game will be close. 24-14 la habra
Seems like many of you are a bit hesitant to let the name “Tustin” come out of your mouths; let alone Anthony Wilkerson. hahahhahahahhaa.
In the end, Tustin just might win “the big win” this year. Hopefully.
Tillers. Anthony Wilkerson
i think u guys r leaving out vp.
country, where would you have puy them? sunset in place of marina, enrolment ,travel and economics would prevent that. century. well now that espy is in and tustin out thats settled although elmo or vp could join the orange and western the freeway , that would make since and a very good century, but its allready been settled. the problem in freeway is coaching at other schools. la habra was no different than the rest until devaney stepped down at sunny hills and mazzotta showed up at lhhs. maybe if these other coaches would adopt a winning formula and stick with it they might have some success, but instead they whine about how their lower levels dont have chance and have a running clock installed because they cant keep up. lancers maybe on the way back with caffery and except for fullerton who are just as big as whiners as the rest, nothing will change .if you want to compete with the best you need to work like the best.
i would like to see CYP vs LH
that would be a game
i think cypress is underrated.
not better than la habra, but look at the cents to surprise some people.
well they already did in fact…look at that cypress vs mater dei game.
they have a good fan base. that school is into it no doubt.
I was reading some of the stats on Tustin’s Wilkerson this year and last, there is no doubt he’ll be big on the next level, maybe the next level after that. You can’t stop him, you can only try to contain him.
Mater Dei is better than Los Al. Cypress lost to Mater Dei by one score…La Habra lost to Los Al by two scores…hmm.
cypress has one of the fastest and strongest teams around but LH is still good. pacifica is still a joke they can not compete with cypress. Cypress will role in league and no one can stop them in the empire league.
everyone is leaving out vp…. 4-0 as of today….
the standings are wrong… Vp is walking away with the big W at the end
- Doesn’t look like Foothill will place in the top 3 of the Sea View League. HB might claim that 3rd spot with Trabuco at 1 & El Toro at 2.
- Valencia isn’t top 10 material. So they’re out.
- I say that everything remains the same except for 8-10. El Toro leaps over Canyon for the 8th spot and Canyon claims the 9th spot. Troy jumps into the 10th spot.
- No way VP jumps over El Dorado just because they lost to Tesoro. Even if they finish non league next week at 5-0. ElDo should remain over them.
what r u talking about eldo was better they also missed a fieldgoal. and u got killed by norwalk
