Football: Eichelberger’s Top 10 vote

football_blog8That shuffling sound you might be hearing this week is the sure change in the county football rankings, as three teams, including No. 1 Servite, went down to defeat last weekend.

Just another ho hum week of Orange County high school football

After an intriguing weekend of football, here is a look at my vote for the county top 10, which includes a new No. 1 team and a new team in my  rankings.

Eichelberger’s Top Ten
1. Edison: The Chargers leap over Mission Viejo to claim my No. 1 vote after a dominating defensive effort in a 23-9 win over previous No. 1 in the county and Pac-5 Servite. I know No. 2 Mission Viejo and their fans might not agree, but after knocking off the Friars in such convincing fashion, the Chargers deserve the top spot.

2. Mission Viejo: The Diablos recovered from a sluggish first half to post a road victory over Vista 41-17.

3. Los Alamitos: Though the Griffins first three wins have come against teams with a combined 2-8 record, Los Alamitos has outscored those opponents 124-0.

4. Servite: The Friars will look to regain some momentum with a road game next Saturday at Chapparal.

5. La Habra: The Highlanders used the arm of quarterback Cody Clements (4 TD’s) to knock off Downey 45-15. They will now look to make a statement against Los Alamitos Thursday.

6. Fountain Valley: The Barons moved to 4-0 behind a good overall day from Middlebrooks (111 yards rushing, 37 yards receiving, TD) and three rushing touchdowns from Dominic Ragland.

7. Mater Dei: The Monarchs needed a late field goal to escape with a 23-20 win over L.A. Jordan. They can really make a statement about where they’re season is going when they take on Edison Thursday.

8. Orange Lutheran: The Lancers must regroup after suffering a heartbreaking 20-14 loss to Redlands East Valley on the final play of the game.

9. Tustin: The return of Anthony Wilkerson meant a return to the victory column for the Tillers.

10. Newport Harbor: The Sailors make my list after impressively shutting down the Sea Kings 37-7 to claim the bell.

The next thee

11. San Clemente: Any ugly 34-20 loss to Santa Fe drops the Tritons out of my top ten.

12. Esperanza: The Aztecs return to action Friday against Ferris High of Spokane.

13. Dana Hills: The Dolphins look to put forth a strong effort when they host Newport Harbor Friday.

    Eichel’s,

If that isn’t a slap in face. Nobody’s complaining about your top
ten. Here, let me throw you a bone. What in the name of God are
you ranking M.D. and Olu for?. What , are ya nuts?. Ah heck,
don’t fret, Edison will remove M.D. this week for good. The game will
be close only because Edison is coming off a huge win. The let down
will set in, But Edison prevails by 10 points.
