The Best Games of Week 3:
No. 21 Corona del Mar (3-0) vs. No. 11 Newport Harbor (2-0)
Thursday, 7 p.m., at Orange Coast College
Outlook: Welcome to the Battle of the Bay.
The Sea Kings, under coach Jason Hitchens, have moved up to No. 2 in the Southern Division.
The Sailors are coming off on an impressive victory over Loyola of Los Angeles.
The Sailors defeated the Sea Kings, 42-13 last season. Will this year’s meeting be different?
CdM quarterback Michael Borchard is a touchdown-scoring machine so far this season. He has passed for four and rushed for six. J.D. Abbott leads the ground attack with 422 yards and five touchdowns.
Newport Harbor quarterback Austin Rios (21 of 31, 341 yards) is settling in nicely in his first year as varsity starter. It also doesn’t hurt to have a couple of legitimate threats (Cedric Whitaker and Cecil Whiteside).
Whitaker has scored five touchdowns (three rushing, one kickoff return, one defensive) in two games. Whiteside has caught 10 passes for 152 yards. Of course, he’s also a force on defense.
Will the Sea Kings be able to contain Whitaker, Rios and Whiteside?
No. 3 Edison vs. No. 1 Servite
No. 4 Orange Lutheran vs. Redlands East Valley
El Toro vs. No. 19 Laguna Hills
No. 25 Canyon vs. No. 23 Foothill
Newport Harbor is alot better this year and should easily handle the pretty good team of Corona Del Mar, this is a good chance to show how good Newport Harbor really is and vault them int the top ten where personally i think they should be anyway Newport Harbor 35 Corona Del Mar 17
After watching Newport play Loyola, I think it will be worse then last year. Newport’s defense was tough against a big Loyola Offensive line with a very good back. As far as I know CDM does not have that kind of O-line or that kind of back. I predict a long night for the Seakings, I just hope that there are no injuries for either team.
Nothing else matters when It comes to this game…Keep the Bell where it belongs and pound the Seakings! Class of 77……BIg win for the Tars!!!!!!! Trainer Bob, Sarge, Doyle, Cochrene, OC Football at its finest!
