Week 2: By the numbers

football_blog4Here is a recap of Week 2, according to the numbers.

5 – Scoring drives led by Tesoro quarterback Brett Mason in the first half Thursday against El Modena. The Titans would eventually pick up their first victory of the season, 45-14.

4 - Turnovers forced by the Santiago defense in a 40-0 victory over Orange.

12 of 16, 244 yards 2 tds – Costa Mesa quarterback Todd Davis’ numbers in a 28-14 victory over Saddleback.

174 – Receiving yards for Costa Mesa’s Brian Waldron in the game against Saddleback.

333 – Passing yards for Saddleback quarterback Tino Candelas in the game against Costa Mesa. This is the second consecutive game that Candelas has topped the 300-yard plateau.

457 – Matt Viles’ passing yards in Edison’s 34-17 victory over Dana Hills.

13 and 193 – The number of receptions and passing yards for Edison’s Jeff Trojan in the game against Dana Hills.

6 of 8, 119 yards, 2 tds – First half numbers for Los Alamitos quarterback Dylan Cook in Thursday’s game against Fremont of Los Angeles. The Griffins eventually won 55-0.

139 yards and 3 tds – Rushing yards and total touchdowns for Newport Harbor running back Cedric Whitaker in Thursday’s 28-14 victory over Loyola of Los Angeles. Whitaker also had a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

207 – Total yards for Brea Olinda quarterback Randy Liggins (108 passing and 99 rushing) in Thursday’s 37-20 victory over Sonora.

27 carries, 185 yards, 4 tds – Stat line for La Habra’s Josh Quezada in the Highlanders’ 37-10 victory over South Hill of Covina.

7 – yard pass frrom Rancho Alamitos quarterback Mike Frank to Brent Wisdom with seven seconds remaining to give the Vaqueros a 24-21 victory over Sunny Hills. Frank passed for 316 yards.

5 – yard pass from Esperanza quarterback Drew Huusfeldt to Drew Stubblefield with 13.9 seconds that would eventually give the Aztecs a 21-20 road victory over Mira Costa of Manhattan Beach.

147 – Rushing yards for El Dorado’s Brock Dunn in Thursday’s 27-21 victory over Fullerton.

3rd – Consecutive game that a Canyon football game has been decided by three points or fewer. This time, Glendora defeated Canyon, 21-20.

3 – Rushing touchdowns scored by Corona del Mar quarterback Michael Borchard in a 27-14 victory.

451 – Rushing yards gained by Brethren Christian in 47-21 victory over Calvary Chapel of Downey.

2 – 3rd quarter touchdown passes tossed by Whittier Christian second string quarterback Daniel Chacon in Friday’s 21-10 victory over Savanna.

21 of 25, 199 yards,  2 tds – The much-anticipated debut of San Clemente quarterback Chase Rettig. Rettig, who has committed to Boston College, missed the season opener with a back injury.

21 – Consecutive points scored in the second half by Mater Dei for a 31-13 home victory over Centennial of Corona.

7 – Consecutive possessions that the Orange Lutheran scored on in its 46-20 victory over Tustin.

22 of 26, 257 yards, 2 tds – Orange Lutheran quarterback Bobby Wheatley’s passing numbers in Friday’s game.

14 – Consecutive number of completions by Wheatley.

31 and 2 – Servite had a pair of 31-point leads in what eventually turned into a 38-28 victory over Crespi.

3 – Touchdowns scored by Servite’s Mr. Everything Chris Nicholls and passes picked off by the Servite defense against Crespi quarterback Bryan Bennett.

264 - Rushing yards gained by Loara running Howard Gauta in a 47-14 victory over Los Amigos. Gauta had just 10 carries and scored five touchdowns.

4 – The number of touchdowns scored by Santa Margarita quarterback Reilly Higgins inFriday’s 34-20 victory over Foothill. Higgins rushed for two and passed for two scores.
