What happened: University dropped just one set in the first two rounds and cruised to a 14-4 victory over visiting Northwood on Tuesday.

Records: University 2-0; Northwood 2-1

Impact: Early season matches like this one help sort out the county rankings, where Northwood made its debut at No. 7 this week. The Trojans opened the season No. 3, and showed why they are the county’s best team not named Dana Hills or Corona del Mar.

Match of the Day: University’s Ali Dawson v. Northwood’s Courtney Pattugalan. Junior takes on junior, and a rematch of last year’s match that Dawson took in a tiebreaker. Dawson stormed out to a 5-1 lead Tuesday, only to watch Pattugalan climb back to 5-4. Dawson was able to close the match out, and won 6-4. It helped the Trojans take Round 2, 6-0, and lead 11-1 overall.
