Football: Tustin’s Wilkerson to sit out Friday’s game

football_blog3Tustin’s star running back, Anthony Wilkerson, will not play in Friday’s nonleague clash with Orange Lutheran because of a pulled hamstring, Tustin coach Myron Miller said Tuesday night.

Orange Lutheran (0-1) is ranked No. 4 in Orange County and Tustin (2-0) is No. 9.

Miller said Wilkerson was injured during the game against Foothill this past Friday.

The senior has been undergoing treatment this week in hopes that he could face the Lancers, but he has not been able to practice.

Wilkerson, who has committed to Stanford, has rushed for more than 300 yards in each of Tustin’s first two games this season. He has scored a county-leading 11 touchdowns.

“And when they don’t practice they don’t play. It’s just not fair to the kid,” Miller said. ”We have other running backs, and one of them is going to have to come up big.”

Miller said the running back duties would be shared Friday by Romel Lilly, Avery Lynch and A.J. Rafter.

Damn. You can’t run A.W. into the ground coach Miller. Hope Wilkerson gets well soon, and lets hope he only misses this Friday’s game Tustin fans.

  • SCDad says:

I guess we won’t be able to see if “AW” is the real deal against a D1 Pac-5 school. With out ‘AW” Lancers 56 Tillers 10

    • whatshisname says:

scdad, your probably rifgt about tustin losing but your score is way off. Id pay more attention to your game against trabuco if I were you, because sc will be 1st pac5-d1[whooo!!]team to go down . and by the way , get ready for pac 5 powerhouse sc world to crumble in week 5.

    • Johnny V. says:

AW is the real deal. We faced them last year, plus the all of times I saw him play in other games including the CIF finals. He is the real deal; the sad part is that Tustin needs to learn how to pass effectively that would help AW and the Tillers. I do not think you can change Miller’s way of thinking. They would be unstoppable if they had a decent passing game. I agree Lancers should win pretty easy without AW playing.

  • hawksmom says:

Wishing you a speedy recovery. You are a scholar athlete on/off the field. As my mother once told me, you need to be strong and ignore the ignorant people or comments. Good luck Anthony!

  • Mexican Bob says:

Too bad. This takes a little bit of the shine off the game of the week. Hey, does anyone know what happened to Tustin’s Ameer Webb. He was a fantastic complement to AW last season. And if I remember correctly, he was only a sophomore.

    • OC HS FB Fan says:

Ameer Webb was a Senior last year and is now at Cerritos JC. I believe he is playing football and running track.

Country, do you know any different?

  • MONRACHS3232 says:

BRING UP THE NEW KID HE IS READY TO GO IN A SMALL WAY .TUSTIN STILL HAS A GREAT D TUSTIN 23 OL 14 BET THE HOUSE !

  • Country says:

Well this sucks. But we got 7 games and the playoffs to think about.

On the plus side. We get to see other kids involve in the mix. I hope they’re ready for it since they saw so little of it (carrying the ball) in the first 2 games.

Our defense should be able to keep it close. After all, we got 8 returning on a defense that kept it close last year.

    First to 10, wins.

  • bighsfootballfan says:

Hey SCDad Wilkerson is the real deal believe that, by far the best back in the counties meaning LA and OC and SD, Stanford didnt pony up because of his potential they did it cuz he is one bad young man spped quickness power and can carry the load, and look for a fantastic senior season at Tustin but then 4 solid years at the home of the Cardinal.he will play right away and barring injury will not redshirt is my prediction., and Miller is doing the right thing and it may cost him a victory but Tustin will not lay down and my hope is that they SHOCK em, cmon Tillers!!!

  • DAN ALBANO says:

I think Tustin will give OLu a really good game Friday

  • MONRACHS3232 says:

that young man is not the only rb at tustin there are 3 more good rb at tustin and u dont want to see 9th grader he could be the best ever something for all u hate talking people to think about the beat goes on

  • pacific says:

    LETS GO TRABUCO BEAT SC.

  • joe b. says:

That’s a bummer. I was looking forward to this game. Wilkerson’s absence took some luster off of the game. I hope Anthony gets better soon.

  • Damian Dottore, OCVarsity says:

I went out to practice today and shot some video. I also interviewed Anthony Wilkerson, Coach Myron Miller and JR Rafter, one of the four backs who will be filling in for Wilkerson on Friday. It will be posted on OCVarsity.com Thursday afternoon

  • highlanderfan says:

I hope Anthony is feeling better. I am glad to read that he has chosen Stanford. It shows he has the academic muscles to match his football ability. This game should be a cakewalk OrLu. That is what happens to tillers when the blade falls off the plow.

  • ahha says:

thank u MJ olu is garbage

    • Country says:

Because of what ? Of that Ohio team who beat them ? Please. That’s a very good team trying to go 4-0 or some something like later this week. OLu is looking like a 2nd place Trinity league team at moment behind Servite. Nothing garbage about that.

  • Dave Markrin says:

Maybe he wouldn’t be hurting if they would quit handing him the ball in the 4th quarter with multi-touchdown leads. You don’t need to keep running up his stats. Everyone knows he is a great player. Let some of the other kids have a chance. 300 yards and 6 tds is fine if you need them to win, but a waste if you are up by 21 points in the fourth.
