Calhoun’s Games to Watch: Trabuco Hills vs. San Clemente

football_blog4Taking a look at the top games of Week 2:

No. 13 Trabuco Hills (2-0) vs. No. 6 San Clemente (1-0)
Friday, 7 p.m., at San Clemente High

Outlook: The Tritons return to the field after a week off, but they might have to go without quarterback Chase Rettig. San Clemente coach Eric Patton told my hero, Steve Fryer, that Rettig (back injury) might not play against the Mustangs.

Enter sophomore Travis Wilson. Wilson completed 13 of 16 passes for 142 yards in San Clemente’s season-opening victory against El Camino on Sept. 4.

David Espino rushed for 101 yards in the game.

Trabuco Hills, ranked third in the Southwest Division, has only allowed seven points this season. The Mustangs are coming off of a 27-0 defeat of Southern Division champion Laguna Hills.

Dylan Buononato has rushed for 229 yards in two games and Shane DeCillo has 108 yards.

Trabuco Hills held Laguna Hills to just 60 total yards on 37 plays last week.

Can they do that again? Will San Clemente be able to survive without Rettig if he is unable to go?

Well, this is an interesting game, from the get i thought Trabuco was in the top three teams in Southwestern and top 12 in County, and i think after these past couple weeks they may be the best team in Southwestern and top 9-10 in County dont be surprised if Trabuco wins this one easy Rettig or no Rettig, another Southwestern powerhouse dancing with the big boys so to speak cmon Trabuco!!!

  • doublede says:

41 to 0 at halftime last year….starters pulled for the entire second half! Trabuco Hills has a fine team and well coached….but will not beat this team. Espino will rush for 100plus and Ella will be the go to receiver. 28 to 7 SC.

  • bighsfootballfan says:

doubled………This year Trabuco is a much improved tam and SC is down some and mark my words this will only be an upset if SC wins…..talk to me Saturday am, im sure you have a bit of explaing to do……………

  • HSfootballRules says:

Different year, different teams, different circumstances…I don’t know who will win, but I think the game is going to be close and likely come down to special teams play one way or the other…If San Clemente team, like you doublede, thinks it will be like last year, then THHS will punk SC. By the way, my guess is that Rettig will play – Classic move by SC coach to announce that he will be doubtful as a decoy…THHS does have injuries to several key players who will not be playing. Should be a great game!

  • SCCMAN says:

Trubuco is Legit…. is what Iam hearing! This SC team is a way different team from last year. SC has almost…… lost their complete offensive line and back field from last year! This should be a “Dandy” of a game…GO SC!

  • HSfootballRules says:

No different with Trabuco…8 new starters on offense, 7 new starters on defense…

  • doublede says:

I love this Trabuco Hills team, well coached and very emotional ! Check my post I never mentioned anywhere it would be like last year, please stick to facts. I only mentioned the score because our second team played the entire second half…same players who will be competing Friday night! Should be an outstanding game, my prediction THHS will score first the Mustangs will be feeling it early…Final score SC 28 THHS 7. I don’t much believe in rankings especially this early but bighsfootball fan even you should know that SC is 6th in the County and the Mustangs are not in the top ten. There will be no explaining necessary if THHS wins….as I stated earlier I like the program!

  • doublde…well said enjoy your passion and stickin to your guns , alot like me so if with that being said Trabuco-24 SC-14….Rettig or no Rettig(and no disrespect to that young gun much respect for his skills)

  • HSfootballRules says:

Okay doublede, as long as you’re making predictions here is mine…Trabuco wins it with defense and special teams (3 field goals and 1 td on special teams)…Final score: THHS 23 – SC 21.

  • doublede says:

    Good Luck….

  • justaguyinoc says:

If Rettig doesn’t play, San Clemente is not a top 10 team in the county. I am a die hard San Clemente fan, but objective. I have no clue whether he is gonna play tomorrow, no clue who is gonna win. But what’s the point of prediction if you are picking “your” school to win EVERY game?? DD has predicted a San Clemente loss in a couple of years. And it is not just him, some of you posters on here are the same. Loses credibility

  • justaguyinoc says:

BTW, I do hope Rettig is that much of a difference maker, otherwise like I said SC is just an average team. Go SC!!

Also, in my previous post, I meant DD has NOT predicted a SC loss in a few years.

  • MustangRanch says:

    Stangs are gonna take it.

  • OC football says:

Word is that Rettig will not play.. Is this kid ever going to suit out?

    Trabuco by 13

Justaguy, arent you a tesoro homer?

  • justaguyinoc says:

Nope, been a Triton fan since McElroy put SC back on the football map. Still remember the win against Mater Dei back in…I believe 95. Amazing how time has passed by…I am a big fan, but a very objective and realistic fan. Not one of those guys only shows up on blogs when my team is having a good year, or one who will predict my team to win every game.

  • doublede says:

    justaguyinoc…

I have coached or participated with almost every player at SCHS for the last eight years…either thru Pop-Warner or at the high school level. Being negative does not make you realistic it just makes you negative. My thread here on the THHS game is fair and thoughtful…I gave a reason why I think this years team is to much to the Mustangs. I think however in there Division the Mustangs are in the finals again against La Habra….I could use the LaHabra team as a common opponenent but choose not too. You still have a hard team coming to grips with the fact SCHS was pretty darn good last year and you predicted failure….but your a big fan and was just being realistic. Right…If your are who I think you are just enjoy your demotion and just be realistic!

  • justaguyinoc says:

doublede…what the heck are you talking about? You are clueless as usual. I challenge you to find a post of mine that is being “negative” towards SC. I simply state the truth. San Clemente was pretty darn good last year, as the year before, or most of the past 10-15 years or so. I never said otherwise. I just can’t stand people picking their team to win every game (not just you, but many posters on this board) every time. San Clemente was darn good, but not undefeated good, which you had them last year. I could understand your bias last year because your son was playing. When did I predict “failure”? I didn’t think they were going to beat both MV and Tesoro, and they didn’t beat either one! I thought they would be Espy, but they didn’t. Get a sense of reality. I am not who you think I am, but either way, no need to get personal. I can’t stand people like you. It is like if Steve Fryer picks team A to win, people like you will say he is “negative” or shows “disrespect” towards team B. Just because I don’t think SC is going to win every game doesn’t mean I am negative or not a fan. Learn to get a life and not live through your son anymore, if you want to get personal.

  • justaguyinoc says:

In other news…I am predicting Lakers won’t finish 82 – 0 this year…Oh my, I must not be a Laker fan because I am so negative toward my Lakers.

  • Bulldog says:

I think Trabuco Hills was made to look better than they are (and they are a fine team) by the dramatic drop off of the Laguna Hills Team. I hope I am wrong though….GO MUSTANGS!

  • justaguyinoc says:

You were right bulldog, 21-3, Go Tritons!

  • SCDad says:

    Justaguyinoc,
get another team to root for! ..we don’t need your negativity! . I read all your post’s from last year, and would always oppose SC. Doublede is right on about SC! They were a good team last year and again this year. So what if his son was on the team as the quaterback! What does that have to do with it. SC should have beaten Tesoro & Mission Viejo but lost. Oh’ well get over it ! we DID!

To all the Mustang fans… good game and good luck the rest of the season!

  • MustangSally says:

…just wondering about the word on the street regarding Mustang quarterback duo Ryan Ochoa and AJ Josue? Ocho is only a junior & has a gun & Josue (a senior) can throw, but holds his own at jukin’! Cool tag-team…yes?no?
