Taking a look at the best games of Week 2:

No. 4 Orange Lutheran (0-1) vs. No. 9 Tustin (2-0)
Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Orange Coast College

Outlook: Do you remember the Lancers? Orange Lutheran hasn’t played since Aug. 30, when it opened the season with a 28-14 loss to Pickerington Central of Ohio.

They have had all this time to try to correct what went wrong in the opener.

The Lancers might get a huge break  in this game, as Tustin running back Anthony Wilkerson, the county’s leader in rushing yards and TDs, is injured.  Tustin coach Myron Miller said Tuesday night that Wilkerson won’t play in the game.

That would be a huge loss for Tustin. Wilkerson has rushed for 671 yards and 10 touchdowns in two games.

Wilkerson is quick to credit the play of his offensive line (Sergio Franquis, Angel Rios, Scott Hungerford, Jovanny Melendez and Manuel Villa), so is it possible for Tustin to replace him and still challenge the Lancers?

Even with Wilkerson, this was going to be the Tillers’ greatest test. Are they up for the challenge?

Remember this, the teams met last season, and the Lancers won, 10-0. Wilkerson missed that game, too, because of an injury.

Tough deal for Wilkerson the best back in the county, but smart move by his coaches i applaud them for smarts to sit mr. Wilkerson and get healthy, cmon Tustin!!! one player does not make a team so go get em and represent southwestern with tenacity and poise!!!

BRING UP THE NEW KID HE ONLY IN THE 9TH HE CAN MAKE IT GO IN SPOT DUTY

    • Country says:

      Kid’s name please ?

And do you go by another screen name around this site ? I’ve seen another guy who has the 3232 after blah blah.

  • Mexican Bob says:

Already asked this on another blog, but does anyone out there know what happened to Tustin’s RB Ameer Webb? Always heard his name mentioned with AW last season.

    • Country says:

Cerritos College playing football and running track. Easily could have been a D1 scholie kid if he played under Miller for all 4 years. He played his freshman year. His family moved out to some desert city and he attended a small charter school with no sports program for both his sophomore and junior year.

  • Magillacutty says:

A classic case of the overworked hammy. 42 carries ( about 22 more than necessary) nearly wore the kids legs off. Smart move by the
coaches to hold him out, making up for a dumb move the week before.

    • MJ says:

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!…I said the same thing! It seems like coach Miller’s hell-bent on possibly wanting to see Wilkerson break a DeShaun Foster record or two. If he’d just throw the ball to Dominique Coulter the ball 10 times a game, it would definitely alleviate the strain and stress on Wilkerson’s legs.

I was at the Tustin-Foothill game last week, on the sideline watching, and watched Wilkerson walk past me a little funny; as he was laboring one of his legs. Miller can’t run A.W. into the ground like that.

  • bighsfootballfan says:

Mexican Bob, answer to your question Ameer Weeb is playin DB at Cerritos College ,lighting quick as we all have seen but needs to bulk up some but is on the squad and will play 2nd team defense this year barring injury to other soph. DB who has beat him out , by the way Cerritos is loaded this year and will make a run deep into JC level playoffsled by former La Habra High QB Morales,in fact Cerritos has 5 Lformer La Habra championship team players on the squad all of them getting real playing time.

  • Papaya Bob says:

Thanks for the info, bighsfootballfan. For some reason I thought Ameer was a sophomore last year. Oh well, lets see if the other Tustin RB’s can get it done against Lancers.

  • MJ says:

Also, lets not forget Tustin actually beat O-Lu in the middle part of this decade, like 42-25 or something like that. So hopefully, Tustin can get it done.

    • Country says:

As someone else once said on this site some time ago.

Forget about last year! Forget about 3-4 years ago! Beat them now!

  • juggernaut says:

ok MJ do not mention a game from the 2005 season. this is hs football. players get only 4 years. that was 4 years ago. every single student from both of these schools down to the freshmen is no longer in high school. it doesnt matter at all. and i dont know what makes the writer of this think that wilkerson didnt play last year because he definitely did. he just didnt get amillion yards or 1000 tds

    • MJ says:

I only made light of the 2005 Tustin-olu game because some people make it seem as if Tustin CAN’T BEAT o-lu, when in fact, they did before…at least once. That’s all. So calm down!

  • bigboy says:

When they played last year wilkerson didnt miss that game. Do your homework fryer. Your so inaccurate
