Playing without its top two players, Nguyen helped her team finish second overall at the California High School Classic in Fresno, hosted by Buchanan High School.

The Sea Queens lost in the final, 4-3, to Monta Vista. It was the third consecutive year Corona del Mar, which was the defending champions, reached the finals.

Nguyen won the clinching match, 6-4, 7-5, in Saturday’s semifinals to lift her team into the championship match. She dropped just two games in four sets in Friday’s opening rounds.
