
Corona del Mar, ranked No. 2 in Orange County, traveled to Fresno over the weekend to participate in the California Tennis Classic hosted by Buchanan.
The defending-champion Sea Queens reached the finals for the third consecutive year at the tournament. However, they were beaten by Monta Vista, 4-3.
Monta Vista, which has won three of the four past Northern California CIF Division I championships, swept the four singles matches. The Sea Queens won the three doubles matches, and have yet to drop a doubles match in the last three seasons at the tourney.
Corona del Mar was playing without its top singles players Melissa Matsuoka and Hailey Hogan, who were away attending to college commitments.
Katelyn Nguyen earned the clinching victory at No. 1 singles in the semifinals, where Corona del Mar beat Saratoga, 4-3.
