After a Week 0 that saw four of the county’s top 10 county teams go down to defeat, Week 1 saw the county elite push back, as only No. 10 Tesoro went down.
However, that didn’t mean that my top 10 stayed the same.
Here now is how I voted for this week’s county top 10.
Eichelberger’s Top 10 vote
1. Servite: In their two wins this season, the Friars have outscored their opponents 77-20.
2. Mission Viejo: The Diablos have not only scored 81 points in their two wins, but have only allowed one touchdown.
3. Orange Lutheran: The Lancers defense will have all it can handle this week in dealing with Anthony Wilkerson and Tustin.
4. Edison: The Chargers travel to Dana Hills Thursday in what could be one of the highest scoring match-ups of the season.
5. San Clemente: The Tritons were idle last week and will take on a hot Trabuco Hills Friday.
6. Los Alamitos: The Griffins opened the season impressively by shutting out Mayfair 31-0.
7. Tustin: With Wilkerson averaging 335 yards per game on 9.6 yards per carry, the Tillers have to like their chances against the Lancers.
8. La Habra: The Highlanders cruised past La Mirada in their season opener 54-13.
9. Fountain Valley: The Barons move up a spot after avenging their 2008 loss to Tesoro 35-14.
10. Mater Dei: Yes, I dropped the Monarchs three places even after they won. No, I’m not crazy…. (It’s still early in the school year) But the Monarchs were a minute away from being 0-2, and though Cypress has a very solid team, Mater Dei is struggling.
The next three:
11. Dana Hills: After beating up on Santa Margarita and El Toro, the Dolphins get their chance to make prove how good they really are when they host Edison.
12. Newport Harbor: The Sailors opened their season with a rout of Aliso Niguel 45-7.
13. Trabuco Hills: The Mustangs defense made a big statement in a dominant shutout of Laguna Hills 27-0. They can really open some eyes Friday with a road win over San Clemente.

Jason,
Ranking Mater Dei # 10 has fulfilled your quota for charitable
contributions for the year. I hereby relieve you of the responsibility.
You no longer have to unecessarily rank M.D. higher than more deserving teams based on the glory ghosts of the past. Other than
M.D., the rest of your top ten seems to be realistic.
Cordially,
Magilla
