Breaking down the best matchups of Week 0:
No. 24 Fullerton vs. No. 19 Canyon
Friday, at Fullerton High, 7 p.m.
Outlook: There is a very good chance Fullerton will enter this game with a bit of revenge on its mind. These two teams met twice last season, and Canyon easily won both games.
First, in the opener, Canyon won, 42-21. The second meeting came in the second round of the CIF Southwest Division playoffs. The result: Canyon won, 53-17.
Will things be different this season?
The Comanches are loaded with seniors, including all five starting offensive lineman. Beau Perry takes over at quarterback. He should find the transition smooth, thanks to Canyon’s usual crew of athletic skill players.
Canyon is picked by the coaches to finish second in the Century League.
Fullerton has the makings of a team ready to do some damage this season. The Indians return 12 starters and picked up one of the biggest transfers in the county in linebacker Dominic Greco, formerly of Servite.
Don’t forget about quarterback Dominic Ficociello and running back Joseph Hill. Hill earned all-league honors last season, even though he was Michael Allain’s backup.
