O.C. football Top 25: No. 7

7. San Clemente

(8-3 overall, 3-2 and second place in the South Coast League in 2008)

This team went from good to very good with the spring transfer of quarterback prospect Chase Rettig. Rettig threw for 1,275 yards and 13 touchdowns on a 1-9 team at La Salle of Pasadena last year. He might put off wild numbers running the Tritons’ fly offense. San Clemente has offensive balance, too, with all-league returnee David Espino at running back. The Tritons play in a loaded league, but they should be a top-10 fixture again.

  • Well very interesting this is where La Habra belongs, and we will all find out when they bump heads soon, but in all honesty this is where La Habra belongs without doubt and thats all i have to say bout that!

  • Country says:

For a highly touted QB. Those numbers are pretty … uh … well … dismal.

  • Magillacutty says:

I sure hope Delancellotti’s happy now!

  • bigwompom says:

new qb with minor back ailment sits out opener? hmmm! whats going to happen when hes hit by the big boys in the real deal?

  • bruin4ever says:

I like what SC has, but am concerned by their qb’s 1-9 team record last year. He’s good, but can he win games?

    We’ll see!

  • Mark delancellotti says:

SC’s Chase Redding back is not worth the El Camino game, with the by the following week give’s him another two weeks to be 100%! At which time he will be a very productive QB in the South County! Mr. Magillicutty you see I don’t hide behind an avatar ( just in case you don’t know that’s a cyber name….) Man up….!

  • 09' grad says:

Mark Delancellotti, you the man! Duke was a good QB last year, I know from being one of his recievers (Caught 3 of his passes for 98 yards in the mission game) So Mr. MagIllicutty as Mark and I both say “Man UP!!”

  • Magillacutty says:

    Delance , It’s me , Mike Gilbert I’m just f**kin with ya

  • Magillacutty says:

Sorry about the punk, it was to damn tempting. Anyhow, no Football
coaching this season. The kids are playing at Calvary Chapel. One frosh,
another Soph. on the varsity. I’m going to return next year. Just need a damn rest.

    Gilbo- out

  • bighsfootballfan says:

Well well bruinforever you are correct SC did beat LaHabra last year in a close one with a couple of TD called back, but aloss is aloss i grant you that, but watch just watch what la Habra has this year a better team and only real threat is Los Al on the road, get by that and its will be a great chance to go undefeated but gotta play the games but this year without question SC is dfown and you will see soon enough, oh by the way UCLA may win 4 so you otta come watch La Habra win 12. now what!!

    • bruin4ever says:

LH is still JV high school football, and UCLA is still division 1 big league football.

They will win more than 4 games this year. Just pay attention!

      • bigwompom says:

well that jv team put a scare into 2 pac 5 teams last year didnt they surf roid. and could we please quit polluting these blogs with mention of the biggest jv team in so cal history

      • Clan Dad says:

The La Habra JV team beat Los Al’s JV team last year and I be the Freshman team did also. It will be interesting what this year’s game will be like. Looking forward to it.
