O.C. FOOTBALL TOP 25
13. Newport Harbor
(7-3 overall, 3-2 and tied for first place in the Sunset League in 2008)
Here is a team that has plenty of motivation. The Sailors won its final three league games in ’08 to finish in that five-way tie for first in the Sunset League. No other league team won its final three games. But coin flips kept Harbor out of the playoffs. Harbor brings back Cecil Whiteside, who has committed to Cal. He is known as a great linebacker, but look for Whiteside to be more present on offense than before at receiver. There is a quarterback battle going on at Harbor, and other some new players at other key positions, too. But Harbor looks ready to make another run at the playoffs, coin flips or not.

Newport will ALWAYS contend because they have one of the best coaches in OC leading them. It’s an absolute travesty that Jeff Brinkley wasn’t selected as one of the top coaches of the decade!
just look at what he has done in the past three years after moving back into the Sunset League. Newport has the lowest enrollment of all the schools in the Pac 5!
I think Fryer has a somthin of for him because there is no other way Brinkley could be overlooked!
And yes expect Whiteside to get a lot more looks on offense.
Don’t be fooled by a shakey start to their season. By the time league comes around you may be surprised at what they have!
