I liked what I saw from the North offense tonight during its scrimmage for Friday's Orange County all-star football game.
El Dorado quarterback Kane Wilson connected on a long pass to Orange Lutheran wide receiver Scotty Williams.
And Servite running back Greg Portis made a sweet move up field after a reception in the flat.
Los Alamitos quarterback Clark Evans picked up some good yards on a draw.
And Canyon wide out Colton Grandbouche also impressed. I didn't see him play during the season but he has excellent size at 6-foot-2, good hands and ran some very good routes tonight. I'm not sure how fast he is but he reminds me of Kevin Chandler of Mission Viejo.
On defense, Canyon linebacker Jay Kirshner had the biggest hit of the scrimmage when he laid out Portis with a shoulder. The North linebackers look pretty solid.
La Habra linebacker Joe Casey is calling the defensive signals.
I also heard good things at practices about El Dorado linebacker Billy Henley and Esperanza defensive tackle Sean Avila.
La Habra's Ronnie Hillman didn't practice but sent word that he was going to miss. Attendance by the North players has been outstanding.

Does anyone know anything bout James Carr from Sonora?
Carr is arguably the best Sonora player of the couple years. He has been solid at LB, coaches say. I saw him at OLB today in the scrimmage
