Boys Soccer: Fullerton slips past El Dorado

boys_soccer_iconFULLERTON - An El Dorado penalty and some clutch goal keeping by Dionney Reyes helped lead Fullerton to a 1-0 victory on Wednesday in a pool play game at the Sunny Hills Summer League.

The Indians, Coach George Shumaker, said came out flat, lacking the intensity they have shown at times this summer. And because of that, they weren't able to capitalize on some scoring chances throughout the game.

It wasn't until the Golden Hawks were called for a foul in the box that Fullerton was able to get on the board. Giovanny Farfan knocked in the easy penalty kick.

Late in the second half, though, El Dorado had a chance to not only tie the game but take the lead. Once Mustafa Islam dribbled through the Fullerton defenders only to watch his shot roll within inches of the goal.

But two times, Reyes came up big for the Indians, stopping point blank shots each time to preserve his third shutout of the summer league.

"It (the shutouts) sets the tone for the defense, and it shows that we are playing together as a team," Shumaker said. " And defense wins championships. You have to get the ball up before you can score."

People just leave fullerton alone, stop hating on them

  • HAHAHA says:

But Fullerton is not a strong team... They beat El Dorado (who yes, if you didnt know, they actually have a soccer team there) 1-0, that's pathetic. I mean C'mon, El dorado? That kind of team should be beat by 4 or 5 goals every game by a good team. I would like to see fullerton play against the Esperanza's or the Jserra's, then they can start talking.
