FULLERTON - It took right around four months, but Fullerton finally got its revenge.
Thanks in part to back-to-back goals by Roger Lopez in the second half, the Indians boys soccer team cruised past Brea Olinda, 4-0, on Thursday in a pool play game at the Sunny Hills Summer League to record its second shutout in as many days.
Fullerton defeated Freeway League rival La Habra, 1-0, in the league opener on Wednesday.
Fullerton coach George Shumaker said his team was anxious to face Brea again because the Wildcats ended the Indians' CIF championship hopes when they defeated Fullerton, 2-0, in the first round of the Division II playoffs in February.
The Indians dominated this game on both ends, firing shot after shot at the Wildcats' goal while allowing Brea to only have one really good chance to score the entire second half.
Luis Ramirez gave the Indians a 1-0 lead in the first half which was then turned into a two-goal advantage before halftime when Fullerton converted a penalty kick after Brea Olinda was called for a handball in the box.
When play resumed, Lopez took over with one of his goals narrowly clearing the crossbar after traveling some 30 yards through the air.
"The mission with summer league is develop as a player and develop as a team, Shumaker said. "
On of Lopez's goals just cleared the crossbar after sailing through the air for some 30 yards.
Play in the summer league resumes on Monday here's the scheudle:
1:45 p.m. - Servite vs. Brea Olinda; 2:55 p.m. - Sonora vs. Western; 4:05 p.m. - Sunny Hills vs. La Habra; 5:15 p.m. - El Dorado vs. Santiago; 6:25 p.m. - Chino Hills vs. South Hills
