And it's a guy from a big-time sports family in Orange County, a guy whose brother is a coach at a high-profile county school.
Nathan Call is the boys basketball coach at Yorba Linda High, which will open this fall with freshmen and sophomores.
Yorba Linda will field three basketball teams in 2009-10 -- a junior varsity, sophomore and a freshman team.
Call is a brother of Mater Dei basebal coach Burt Call. Like Burt and Wayne Call, Nathan played basketball at Capistrano Valley. Mark Thornton was the hoops coach at Capo at the time Nathan was there, and Thornton sure is a great teacher of the game.
Nathan also was an outstanding football and baseball player at Capistrano Valley, then went on to start at Brigham Young where he was an All-WAC guard. He has been an assistant coach at BYU and at Utah Valley State College.
