Edison quarterback Matt Viles (6-3, 190) likely bolstered his recruiting stock with a strong showing at the Air Strike passing tournament Saturday at Dana Hills.
The senior-to-be doesn't have a scholarship offer but has drawn interest from I-AA schools.
Edison football coach Dave White said some Ivy League schools have expressed interest in Viles, who carries a 4.14 grade-point average.
UC Davis, Villanova and the University of San Diego also could emerge as contenders to land Viles.
It's still early in the recruiting process, but I know Princeton tried pretty hard last winter to land Tesoro QB Robbie Picazo, who ended up picking Stanford. Maybe the the Ivies will fare better with Viles, who like Picazo is smart and makes good decisions.
Why go east when USD has near Ivy education and superior football close to home and maybe better weather
Some kids want to get away from home - and some of those East Coast cites are pretty attractive
I wonder if Matt Viles will be this yera's Robbie Picazo
