The freeway league will be taken by suprise this year by buena park h.s. Led by Dorian Gibson at rb/wr his speed and vision will cause defenses problems.Ricky Verdugo will add to the headache that B.P. is going to cause teams this upcoming season.

  • Yort says:

Good luck. I hope BP does bring some competition.

  • BPfan101 says:

BP is coming back with a heavy loaded senior team , led by returning All-League WR Ricky Verdugo. Buena Park should have a surprising season. They have alot of weapons including many returners, such like Jimmy Davis at RB, Carlos Alvarez at WR , Dorian Gibson at WR/RB and Troy Nelson at QB.
Their defense looks strong with a strong middle backer Andrew Hanna, and newly added Jeremy Crow at safety.
    Dont sleep on Buena Park

  • champs! says:

If Ricky Verdugo can stay healthy, i think he can do double the damage he did last year. Great instincts and vision makes him so deadly, only team that stopped him was Santa Ana because they double teamed. He should be the biggest threat BP has.

    • hs fan#2 says:

did you just say that the only team that stopped hom was SANTA ANA??? wow you must be kidding me!!!!

  • champs! says:

yeah, from what i seen every other team that covered him one on one he usually ended up beating them. Fullerton had him covered aswell

  • BPFan101 says:

actually...hs fan#2, ricky got injured against Troy, two games before La Habra and did not get to play them. so unfortunatley, your third string defense did not cover him. I believe he still 2nd team ALL-League with only two league games...give credit where it's due my friend.

  • edmundo says:

im a bp fan but buena park is gonna probably go 1-9 again.
some of you guys say that this year they're gonna be a threat, well i doubt it. let me show you some history of bp football.

2001: bp makes it to the div 9 finals despite having a 6-4 record, but lose brea olinda in the finals.

2002: the team starts the season 3-2 and ends the season 1-4 for a combined record of 4-6 and miss the playoffs

2003: this is the beginning of buena park officially failing to compete in the freeway league competition. bp starts out 3-2 including an incredible win over savana which in my opinion is the most exciting bp win in history. they end the season 0-5, but despite their record they were a pretty good team that year.

2004: coach starts the season by telling everyone in the school the he gurantees everyone that the team will go undefeted for the entire season. and it goes the other way around, bp ends up loosing every game including getting shut out by three different teams or maybe it was four teams.

2005: to start the seaon everyone was talking about the previous season and assumed that bp will loose every game, but for the first 5 games it seemed like bp was on a mission to erase the past, make a better present and create a new future that included winning alot. the team started 4-1, tying bp's best start in school history. the school was highly energetic and everyone actually seemed exciting to watch bp football. bp then started freeway league play against la habra. la habra won 51-0. second, fullerton wins 33-13. third sonora wins in ot 28-21. fourth, sunny hiils crushes buena park by beating them with a miraculous pass by the quarterback on 4th down and 10 with just a couple of minutes left in the 4th quarter. fifth, troy ends bp's season by beating them 51-26.

2006: though the team actually improved in 2005, buena park got the craziest idea by deciding to start the seaon with a straigt up difficult schedule.
fountain valley 42, buena park 0
    buena park 27, estancia 7
    buena park 18, foothill 30
    buena park 14, savana 42
    california 13, buena park 7
    troy 42, buena park 14
la habra 42, buena park 7
    fullerton 30, buena park 0
    buena park 12, sonora 14
buena park 14, sunny hills 16

that year they were expected to at least finish 4th in league play and look what happened instead.

2007: i didnt pay much attention to 2007, but bp lost every game and were only able to put up a fight vs estancia for a record of 0-9(later changed to 1-8 because troy forfeited their win against bp because of the scandal that took place that year. bp also did not play against sunny hills because of the wildfires that year).

2008: the season started with a boom, bp defeated bassett 40-0 and cain flores was named ocvarsity player of the week. but c'mon from the stands those guys from bassett looked like they were still in junior high. bp then looses every other game to end the season 1-9 and bring their current record of consecutive league games losses to 30.

yeah, buena park might still be lost in the world of football for another couple of years.

  • hoohah says:

thing is, the reason last yeaar they went 1-9 was due to there star quarterback tearing his ACL, and their backup was already hurt, had no other choice then to send up Freshmen Troy Nelson , who eneded up throwing 6 or 7 touchdowns, BP was a heavy loaded junior team last year and is returning 9 of 11 starters on offense.. with a big heavy duty o-line coming upp this year , will certainly give time for QB troy nelson to throw to some heavly talented players, such like Ricky Verdugo, Jimmy Davis, 6'3 Jeremy Crow, 6'3 Luther Wyatt, Returning C.I,F track runner Dorian Gibson , and plenty more. IF BP was to due to something special, it will be this year . very talented on both sides of the ball.

    • edmundo says:

i know their starting QB went down for the season, but it doesnt seem like it would have made much of a difference, maybe the team could have been 2-8 instead if he hadn't gone down. but i still dont see bp making a significant change in one year, but im looking forward to seeing how bp's young QB has improved from last season. that Troy Nelson has potential to be really good.

i think buena parks record could be 3-7 if they they stay healthy, if they have an injury plagued season again they will only beat bassett or who knows maybe bassett will beat bp.

  • champs! says:

bth, Buena Park has athletes this year, with size. Junior to be Jeremy Crow at 6'3 great catching abillity and can go down the middle, Senior newly added Luther at 6'3 with great leaping abillity can go and jump for the ball. Returning All-League WR Ricky Verdugo is a very deadly weapon who can be used anywhere. Jimmy Davis at RB at 5'11 180 runs a 4.60 avg 40 yd dash. Speedy Dorain Gibson , 40 yd dash in the avg 4.5's and which Barely lost to Fullerton's RB Joseph Hill in the 100 meter dash. Camron Taylor transfer from Irvine sophmore to be did well in passing league so far and looks like could do some damage, at 5'10 / 5'11 . 6'4 Eric Painter seems to be the biggest one, in the 260 lb's , took league in shot put.
O-Line with big size, all over 6'1 or bigger.
New offensive Coordinator Coach Pete Sanchez will be able to use these weapons very effectively,
League Champs? probally not, but could contend for 3rd place and could make the playoffs

  • hoohah says:

Honestly, that kid had talent, if he didnt go down i honestly belived they would have went to the playoffs at a 3rd place , because honestly when he went down it took so much out of that team, sonora beat BP 21-0 and BP had 8 turnovers .....
thats 8 extra times sonora had the ball and only put up 21, BP was beating estancia the whole game until he went down right before halftime , He gave BP 21 straight points in 6 min in 4th quarter against santa ana, yeah bassett sucks pretty bad, but he went 7 for 8 , he has low D1 high D2 potential.

But how confident BP players are this year, there going in knowing they can do damage, espicially with 4 new coaches ,i agree with champs , they could take 3rd place and go to the playoffs, might not advance past the 1st round , but it could be a new beggining for BP Football.
they have speed everywhere on the feild
edmundo , yu have good points , but we both have different views, it'll be interesting seeing BP play this year

and entering the Claremount tournament passing league, playing 4 very tough teams including Orange Lutheran , should give Troy Nelson Alottt of experience, going up against reallly big and tough players could never hurt

  • CHINOXL says:

honestly, as a former player, this team isn't gonna do well with rob ryan as head coach.

  • CHINOXL says:

i recall a time in a game two seasons ago when our qb dylan brazil came in with the coaches play. everybody in the huddle just blew it off as we all agreed on a different play. the coach was obviously heated after that, but i dont think even one player paid attention to him.

  • CHINOXL says:

other than that, good luck to hannah and verdugo as well as every other senior on this team.

  • fullas says:

    1st. la habra
    2nd fullerton
    3rd sunnyhills
    4th sonora
    5th troy
    6th buena park. <- - - - - - - - last place.

    • Yort says:

      You only have two right.

    • PJ says:

Fullas have you been eating paint? Sunny Hills and Sonora had good seasons last year but that was about it. Their lower level teams can not support them like LH, Fullerton and Troy.

  • Peter Y says:

Well I hate to say it, but this season will be no different for the Coyotes. Ever seen a Ship sailing with gail force wind behind it only to lose the wind and stop dead in its tracks. Thats what will happen when BP loses its star player for a game or 2. BP tends to put all their eggs in one basket and when it falls they all break. This team will be out sized and most importantly OUTCOACHED. I have wathced for the last 2 decades and with a couple of exceptions they cant win because of their coach. This year the pain will continue. The current coaches defensive scheme and offensive stuff is a joke. Good luck Coyotes I hope you prove me wrong as well as most of O.C. but I will go tovegas withh the ODDS of 0-10.

  • Jorge says:

Peter you have no knowledge of football nor do you know anything about the Buena Park Coaches and what they have planned for the season. I would suggest that you talk to them and find out what they know and don't know then come back and let us know. Better yet why don't you coach a team at any level and let us know how easy it si to coach.

  • Jorge says:

Win or lose if you are a true Buena Park fan, whether you are a student, parent, alumni, or just fan support the team get to know the players, coaches, and administration before you criticize. It is always greener on the other side of things. There needs to be more support for the lower levels and more participation from the community. If the community provides more positive support perhaps the kids would not have a negative mind set.

  • Peter Y says:

Jorge, by the tone of your posting it would lead me to believe that you are a Buena Park coach. I have coached and the pee wee and High School level, so I have done the walk and I can talk the talk. I have enough insight to watch practices and games and equate effective and non effective coaching. It all starts with the Top, when coaches lose their cool in front of the players it sets a tone of insubordination. I agree that the program should be supported in all levels but the fact of the matter is, I moved closer to a rival high school because I did not want my son playing football for the coyotes. Long after I left the program has only had 2 good season and I will not let him be a part of North Orange County follies.

  • Jorge says:

Peter you might call it that but when you get no community support, no parent support, and people like you who move when you could perhaps affect change it is hard to win on a consistent basis. I don't know what happen when previous coaches were but I do know that the current coach is a good person and coach. It takes a village to raise a child well this village does not want to do their part. La Habra, Fullerton, Troy, ETC. are successful because of their huge community participation and Buena Park is not willing to support their program. It is easy to run away from a situation then to try and affect change. You are showing your son and others that you'd rather run then fight for what you believe in. We will probably never agree but good luck with your season.

  • chinoxl says:

alright, coach Ryan might be a good guy but he is a terrible coach. he lacks everythin needed to be even an adequate head coach. his heart is in the right place but he just doesn't know how to motivate these kids. i blame the a.d. for passing on other, much more qualified coaches during the schools so called interveiwing process

  • Jorge says:

I'm not a coach as I could never stand to put up with all of the things you have to to be a coach. I am an alum who wants to see the program win and win consistently. I think they will this year and make the playoffs.
