RELATED:
Canyon-Toss Up...I dont know how many players Canyon Lost?
Anaheim-Win ...This is an AUTOMATIC win.
El Dorado- Win....El dorado lost its coach and is on the decline
Brea Olinda- Win....A Gimme
Troy-Win .....Troy has talent but still young.
Buena Park- Win ....The game is over once the clock starts rollin...
Sunny Hills-Win ...Lost its coach and cannot match up with Fullerton's offense..
Sonora- Win......Despite some strong running backs, Sonora still cant match up with Fullerton.
La Habra- Loss...Fullerton will be once again unable to contain Quezada and La Habra always seems to be the stronger, more physical team.
Possible 9-1 season?
Doubt that fullerton is gonna beat sonora this year like u said their run attack is pretty good this year.
The difference between Sonora and Fullerton is that Fullerton plays tough competition in pre-season and Sonora's pre-season consists of three, 1-9 team and two, .500 teams which never make playoffs. Fullerton should beat Sonora. Sonora's staff hasn't done much since they got there. Don't see much changing.
i am trying to find out what running attack we are talking about sonora! or any attack for that matter! i believe you only had 65 yards total offense last year against LH and had a whole new rule set for you guys cuz u cant compete! the rule being running clock if the score is buy more than 40 points! fullerton will stomp you! and i'm sure LH will destroy you!
Yes I agree Sonora is loaded at the running back position but Fullerton has junior to be all league linebacker Simon poti and recent all trinity league transfer dominic Greco who will stop the running attack.
just curious we say loaded! everyone remembers Quezada plays for LH not sonora
FUHS student, some good thoughts. Let's see how it pans out. Too soon to tell. What about Western in week 4? OCVarsity missed some pre-season games when they posted these schedules. What strong RB's does Sonora have?
The have Arnold Luevano RB, Baba Eko FB, and Enrique Vasquez RB.
Will they have good O-line to block for them?
who are these running backs? i have never heard of them! and i watched both the JV and freshman game against LH and never seen any stand out running backs
I'm not sure about Western. If they lost their quarterback and some key players on defense then Fullerton should be able to pull of the win.
glad to see you boys pumping up this great rivalry, should be fun to watch, especially now that youve come to your sences that your both overmatched by the clan. hey indians dont be to ruff on our little step bro's
Glass half full :shet up!
Now, now, Fellas let's keep it civil here. This should be fun sports blogging about our favorite team to root for. In the end, all that matters is the scoreboard at the end of the 4th quarter on Friday nights. Can't wait 'til it's here.
freeway fan says shet up!! like oc fb fan says its just fun stuff and Im really busting up over that response from freeway fan. you got to be a raider.
p.s the best and most blogs do seem to come from freeway league ,which is great and shows how much passion there is in freeway football
Canyon lost most of the players including the dynamic trio at HB so if i were to pick i would definietly pick Fullerton, but you never know Fullerton was favored in both meetings last year and the Comanches won both
Yea I went to both of those games and Canyon was simply the more physical and stronger team. Though now that I'm hearing Canyon lost most of its players I see a win for the Indians. Add in the fact that it is a home game for Fullerton and the return of many key players for the Indians, a win is very likely!
Another thought...If Fullerton wins the season opener do you guys think a 5-0 preseason is not out of the question?
And a 9-1 season overall? (The only loss being to La Habra, of course.)
Also do any of you guys know how good Western will be this upcoming season? Did they lose a lot of key players?
Western lost Mookie Cooksie and s stud lineman that went to Div. 1 college, but they have some good athletes at that school. They own the Orange league,
and you've got to be a highlander the way u think ur someone important but im talking football and theres no way ever again that la habra football will ever run it up on us i'll make sure of that.
no you mean the new Rule for the freeway leauge will make sure LH doesnt run the score up on sonorat! didnt that new rule occur cuz sonora couldnt compete and had only 65yrds of total offense! funny thing is that rule is only in our league and no other leauge in the county! suck for the second and third stringers who wont get a chance to get quality playing time!
As much as I hate to admit it La Habra WILL beat us again this year but it will be very close. The linebacker duo of Poti and Greco will be absolutely dominating, as well as the D-Line of Milone, Coloma, etc. Though La Habra's players are simply stronger and more athletic and they have great head coach and that is also a major factor too.
Our weight room is a joke..it's about the size of a living room if that...I've seen La Habra's weight room its huge and they have some great equipment to bulk up.
FUHS student, another good point...
A weightroom should be the foundation of a good football program. A good weightlifting program will help ensure a long injury free season. Obviously LH has figured that out as they play 13 to 14 games year in and year out.
Have you seen Mater Dei's weightroom? It looks like it belongs at the U of Nebraska.
who are they key players from each team that they lost this year?
Sunny Hills?
Troy?
La habra?
Fullerton?
BP?
Sonora?
hs fan#2, not sure this really matters....LH and Fullerton lose 25-30 Seniors(10-15 starters) every year and manage to be as tough as the last season. Troy hasn't seemed to have recovered from the loss of Coleman and the Swaney cousins.
Troy had one off year. It seems that everyone has forgotten that Troy beat La Habra two years ago, and has beat Fullerton 5 of the last 6 meetings. Troy has been rebuilding and will again be a force in the Freeway league.
tell me you are not serious troy! yes that was a nailbiter down to the last min against LH! but that was 2 years ago you guys dont stand a chance to even win a game! i heard alot of kids are tranfering to fullerton and Lh i know of a few already! coleman is gone you cant ride his coat tail forever!
Too bad nothing but the facts obviously didn't have a Troy education because we won more than one game in our rebuilding year last year, and stop with this crap about the past seasons. This is the one that matters
around the bases , why when we try to keep it real and fun , you got to get stupid? obviously your basing this on over all school academic achievment, and has nothing to do with athletics. if it did the district would publish a whole different list. so when you make a statement like that , back it up with facts, for instance you probably will find more than a handful ,way more than a handful of student athletes at both la habra and fullerton who qualifyed for 4 yr universitys, which my guess is equal across the board in the district. so lets not insult these kids. I know for a fact through a very good source the girls in troy techs basketball program are not the greatest students in the world, again maybe a handful.and my guess at any school the percentages of student athletes in the achievment test scores at both troy and sunnyhills isnt very high either ,so like I siad lets keep it real and fun and talk FOOTBALL BABY!!!!!!!!!!!
Glass half full, i know a lot of the Troy Girls bball players, and i hate to tell you that they are wrong. Also the majority of the students at Troy are student athletes. And lets not talk about academic percentages because it's no contest. I appreciate the blogs about sports, but when you bring in Troy academics, you just sound ignorant, sorry to say. Let's compare Troy girls bball to any other in the freeway league, or So Cal for that matter. Then we will see who truely are the "greatest students in the world". By the way the name of our school is Troy, not Troy Tech. Glad i could iron that out for you.
P.S to freeway league fan, when is this going to happen, not in our lifetime!
Well the key players for Fullerton this year will be
Offense- Quarterback Dominic Ficociello- It will be Fic's third year as the starting quarterback, with TONS of experience, a solid arm and legs to run as well. Fic is versatile quarterback with height and great speed.
Running Back- Joseph Hill. He happens to be a friend of mine and I have watched some of his runs @ spring practice and he looks great. He is a legit 5-11 guy and weighs about 175 so he is pretty lean though. He runs a 4.55-4.6 40 yard dash and has great elusiveness. Our running game will be as great as it was in the past two years despite losing Allain.
O-Line- Garret Bell who is a HUGE guy at about 6-4 to 6-5 height wise and he weighs 280. He was injured all of last year which was unfortunate but he has great speed and blocking skills on the line. Overall our line will be solid this year. We also have Scott Cooper who is 6-5 300 pounds and is simply a huge body in the trenches.
DEFENSE
Linebackers- Simon Poti who was first team all league last year and recent transfer Dominic Greco from Servite who was also an all trinity league linebacker will form the best linebacker duo in the league.
Poti who will only be a junior this fall, is about 6 feet and looks to be about 210+ pounds. He has a mean streak about him and looks like a reincarnation of Troy Palomalu( I dont know how to spell it)
Dominic Greco who i have seen at school and on the practice field looks to be 6 feet 3. He is huge but lean. He will absolutely CRUSH the competition this year!
D-Line- Derek Coloma and Anthony Milone, both seniors will be the leaders of the defensive line. Coloma is 6 feet and 240 and Milone is 6 feet 1 and 230. Both have great strength and speed to attack the quarterback. Both have been starters on the team since their sophomore year so they have lots of experience as well.
As for the cornerbacks and safety positions I see these as the weaknesses of this team. Although they have LOTS of options to fill those spots they will be inexperienced vulnerable on that aspect of the defense.
KEEP AN EYE ON:
Junior to be Doyin Sule- 6 feet 2 180. he is raw but has great breakaway speed and elusiveness. Very athletic as well. He will either be at wide receiver or safety this season.
Junior to be Troy Pinelo- 5 feet 8 160. He is small but has BLAZING speed and juking abilities. He will most likely be the back up running back for hill this year but he will definitely get his fair share of carries.
Great synopsis FUHS student. Thanks for the update. Fullerton will definitely be tough. Where does that big punter #7, they had last year, fit into the mix...?
#7 is Junior to be Anthony Martinez. He is a friend of mine and I talk to him regularly as well and he told me that he will be the punter again this season and he will also be the back up quarterback. He is like you said BIG, at about 6 feet 200+ pounds. He could be a lineman on either side but unfortunately the staff does not want to risk him getting hurt because if he did they would not have a back up. That being said if the situation comes if he HAS to be used in a game, Fullerton shouldn't be worried because despite having little to no mobility, he has a great strong arm and is calm under pressure.
How's Greco doing? Any issues with his transfer?
Check teh CIF web site and it will tell you.
Hey, does anyone know anything about how good William Nichols is? I go to Fullerton, but he was in my middle school and I know he goes to Sonora. He's going to be a sophmore. Cause I know he won the 100m at the OC Championships for frosh-soph. He's always been crazy fast but that doesn't necessarily guarantee success in football... Basically, is he going to be a threat in upcoming years?
According to the Sonora football website, he is 5'4" 135 lbs. He needs to grow a little bit and get stonger in order to be injury free the whole season. IMHO he should transfer to LH or Fullerton were the coaching staff can maximize his potential. It will surprise if the mighty Raiders break the .500 mark.
http://www.sohsfootball.com/Sonora%20Strength%20Front.html
They turned me Randy Vorick who is 5'6 190lbs and runs a 5.4 40 into an all league player. My coaches work their a$$ off and don't think some outsider can come in and put them down. Come to school and/or practice and see the difference from when I first got their as a freshmen. We practice as hard as any team in the freeway league I guarantee that. It takes time to truly turn a program around.
Hey Randy, I agree. None of these guys know anything about our coaches. We we so banged up last and eve then, we have 6 different sophomores start in games. The year before that, we got into the playoffs, (I know by a fluke) but we still got in, something Sonora had only done twice in the previous like 15 years. I am a current player and here is what I think of our team specifically, but also our league. 1st - No argument La Habra. 2nd - Most likely will be Fullerton, but I think bothTroy and Sonora will have a shot. 3rd - I think we will take it. Both us and Troy have a lot coming back, but I think our COACHES have prepared us in the off season better than ever. We are going to be pretty good in most places with very good RBs as long as people don't get hurt like last year. For those that don't know anything, on offense alone within the first 4 weeks we at one point or another lost our starting QB, starting RB, backup RB, and 2 starting WR's. The only thing I know is that we don't have a lot of size up front, but a lot of athleticism. Please don't bash our program, Randy said it right, come and watch us lift and practice and you will truly think differently of us and our coaches. We just have to get over the hump, our coach showed us a movies about 1 degree or something like that. and I think at 211 degress water does nothing, at 212 it boils and can power entire countries. (Something like that it was cool) We just need one more degree.
Bud, just think, if you went to La Habra you would have 2 CIF rings, played 14 games a season and plenty of patches on your lettereman jacket. Not to mention the memories.
I think it will be fullerton and sonra competitng for 2nd
Maybe you're right. But I have plenty of great memories at Sonora.
what kind of memories?
Working out with my friends, playing ball, beating Brea for my coaches, coming back against Wilson in the 4th quarter, losing to Troy on the last play of the game. If you'd like I can list more. All apart of making me a better person.
LOL. You guys are great! You are gonna tell me what is a good and better memory. It's gonna be okay bro, it's just high school football. In ten years it will mean very little. Absolutely to me the memories I listed are better to me than LH winning back to back, playing at Angel Stadium, or anything else. They mean as much to me as yours do to you. You show you stupidity by being so close minded. Anything related to football you'd like to ask me I am up for, but arguing with a fanatic is useless.
hey kid dont let these knukle heads ruin your mememories! it doesnt matter if you got to CIF titles or got beat every game! theses are all life lessons and trust me it will matter ten years from now cuz those memories is what will have built you as a man! the best to you! and yes i am a LH fan but its about the kids first!
Couldve/Shouldve....I encourage you to come to a practice or lifting session. I guess I'm defensive of our coaches because of how they helped me when my father passed away. My brother also coached briefly at Sonora. 1st year they went 3-7. Preseason was against 4 playoff bound teams. Only going 1-4. League went 2-3 beat SH and BP. Were picked to finish dead last that year. Next year 5-5 with playoffs. Better than anyone expected, picked to finish 5th in league. Best record for Sonora in 4 years. Last year 3-7, very disappointing. Started 6 sophomores including me. Again (for the unreasonable) we at one point (the Rancho game) we were out 2 starting RB, starting QB, 2 WR's. That is nearly every skill player injured (2 knees, 1 shoulder, 1 strep throat, and can't remember the other, I was one of the knees). So again please don't attack my teammates or coaches. Coach Chiotti has completely changed the attitude of the team and how the school views them. For those that are not in the know, when my brother was there with Coach (can't remember his name) things were very different. They only made the playoff twice in the previous 10 years. Our coaches didn't exactly step into a gold mine, and you will see (hopefully no injuries we are not deep) what they have done. But again you can bash Sonora and promote La Habra all you want it won't change a thing for either team.
Wow, 11-19 in the past three seasons. surprised they still have a coaching job.
Anyone gonna be at the Fullerton passing league on Wed? We just starting summer, took the first 3 weeks off so we may be bit rusty.
took the summer off, come on mike and you defend the coaches.maybe if adminisration would have hired within when tak left they'd have mike baker as their coach and things would be differnt, go faiders!!!
We murderd u guys in passing league and people say your gonna beat us i don't think so imagine if we were able to run the ball too.
Passing league isn't real football. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on it. the game is won in the trenches.
yeah, i wouldn't emphasize on passing league... oh sonora tell ur players to stop acting like u guy are good at passing league.... and when u play fullerton again check how many of the starters were there when u guyz played us....
okay ur offense only completed like three passes and your defense couldn't even stop us....and saying that football games are won in the trenches actually threr won all over the field and we would murder u guys with are run attack too....and just remember we won u lost thats it!
sonora raider, stop poppin off passing lge is a way to gets the kids on the field, so the run a blow off steam......if you're going to bank everything on these passing lge games then get ready to be pummeled. if it wasnt for the fullerton -troy, incident..in 07..sonora would've never made the playoffs...so u need to kiss fullerton and troys a$$'s for getting you there.....cause we all know you cant make it there on your own!....now go set up the water buffalo, the real football players need a drink!
Are u serious bringing up the past...well I'm talking bout rite now and this past monday Sonora yes....Sonora beat fullerton in passing league and owned every other team there so i dont get why people are trying to talk trash all the sudden when the under dogs of league are stepping up and playing the game of football.
Sonora Raider, is this your first year playing football? Sure does sound like it. Passing league is a very small gauge for where your team will be come September. Your A.D. and coaches need to schedule scrimmage & pre-season games against some quality programs, not a bunch of non-playoff 1-9 teams. Just my humble opinion.
DO SOMETHING OTHER THEN WIN A PASSING LGE GAME...IT DOESNT MEAN SQUAT! WIN SOME LGE GAMES ,GET INTO THE PLAYOFFS ON A REGULAR BASIS.NOT ONCE IN A BLUE MOON WHILE.TILL THEN YOU WILL ALWAYS BE THE STEPBROTHER IN LA HABRA AND TO FULLERTON AND TO SUNNY HILLS,OH YEA AND TO TROY.THANK GOD YOU STILL HAVE BUENA PARK TO KEEP U AFLOAT!.WINS SOME GAMES THEN POP OFF.BUT NOT PASSING LGE,I'M SURE YOUR COACH WOULDNT APROVE OF THIS!
Four words.......IT IS PASSING LEAGUE.
Hey Sonora don't go ordering you Freeway League and CIF Champ patches yet.
haha wow u fullerton guys must be pissed and it was ur coaches dission on who they invite to the passing league.......and to tribe head ur suppose to get excited after a big play thats !FOOTBALL! honestly dont be mad cause u guys lost maybe next time.......oh and thats a great joke from freeway fan just change ur name fullerton fan cas thats who ur suppporting rite? honestly we beat u guys in passing league and we'll beat when league comes around
Key player of each team:
La Habra-Quezada
Sonora-Eko
Fullerton-Hill
Troy-There WR forgot his name #83
Sunny Hills- Got Nobody
Buena Park- Nothing to say
This is also how i have the places for teams in the season!
went to your web , wow!!! sonora!!!wow!!! adn youplace your self up above troy and fullerton, Wow!!!!!!!.really 66 and raider fan should check in at uci mental ward, for a reality check. maybe by the time you get to see adoctor under Obamas new health care system youl wake up to find yourselves in last place in the new league with bolsa grande, la quinta ,estancia, and anahiem. great stats in the weight room by the way. your strongest guy benches 275 wow!! have you guys heard of speed training doesent look like it. lhhs whole starting offensive and d-line is faster than half your skill guys. no wonder its funny watching your pre games when you play la habra
those are our stats from april it's now august
Check out Troy's stats....www.troywarriorfootball.com.....ours are real and and right there...and in April.
ok its august and those were in april. youstill gotta explain how you and why you can beat any freeway team this year, cause your lower levels have been awfull over last couple years and all the decent la habra kids do go to clan
Brotha...or should I say angry LH coach. Our junior class last by 7 to LH freshmen and got 3rd in league...and our sophomores got third in league. You picking Sonora 6th is ludicrous. Also it shows how much you know about football...you gauge a football guy base on his Bench Press. Come On really! Did you play football? And yes that was in April, our 40 were on grass with cleats. Check our guys stats at the Under Armour clinic at ESPN. Right there or better with the LH guys....that is a FACT. Sonora has 13 starters back and will compete for 2nd place in league without a doubt. You have some personal issues with our coaches. (Guys I personally respect very much). You always mention them in your posts. Sonora has 65 freshmen out for football this year...65, my brother is on the team and I have been out to practice. Things will turn around at Sonora, just a matter of time. Not saying they will beat LH soon, but there will be comptetition. You can come back with your fanaticism, just proves how ignorant you truly are. So keep them coming...and prove the rest of the county right. LH fans have little class, and nobody could ever be as good, strong, fast, as team.
Not the Michael from above...but to Glass Half Full....we took the first 3 weeks off, and don't get a break in August. Many teams do it, including Fullerton.
to 1st michael about bench and junior class. talk about anger BROTHA, getting alittle defensive[wrong word, sonors wouldnt know what that is] heated up arent you. I just listed bench because it was 1st to pop up ,but the rest of football lifts are pretty meager also. and where you getting this football coach stuff? on the junior class only losing 7-0 [it actually 6-0,should give your boys alittle credit] last game of season , we tryed to be nice but your guy was just to slow on interception return, and that was your only chance to score since your feeble offense couldnt move the ball. and you have 13 starters back from what. I mean your proud that you only lost to la habra by in your words 7-0 but finished 3rd in a league la habra juniors dominated. so what has changed so much in a year that you can predict 2nd place finish , I mean you guys are still scumora faiders
they were being nice...... are u kidding?
What are you trying to say here, "Our junior class last by 7 to LH freshmen and got 3rd in league…and our sophomores got third in league."
Sounds like your junior class lost to LH freshmen, and your sophmores got third in league. How many teams do you have?
no junior Im being sarcastic. what was you record that year not that it matters
we gave la habra the most competition they ever had that year and we went 5-4 my freshman year
Sonora and La Habra should not be mentioned in the same sentence, ever. Those two do not compare. remember... 62-0 woopin'...they are definitely in a different league with coaching staffs that are day and night.
my point exactly junior, that even on the worst day a champion finds away to win ,so whats in your wallet
first off !!! Sonora didnt they make a new League rule because you guys got beat so bad against La Habra last year! How embarrassing is that...I dont think this rule exists in any other leauge, and you guys only had 65 total yards on offense against LH AND GOT BEAT 62-0.....WOW!!! Now if any teams in the freeway league are winning by more than 40 points it’s a running clock! That really sucks for the second and third stringers that means they will never get to see the field...I wonder what rules they are going to make to cater to Sonora’s incapable ways of winning this year! Maybe they will start the games by giving them a 50 point lead cuz that’s the only way they stand a chance against LH ..... Sonora has went through over 10 coaching staffs in the last 20 years it looks like they finally have a great group of coaches willing to stick it out and try to change the the program! but the fact is it will never happen unless you have get the KIDS! Sorry Sonora it is going to be another long season!! Again NOTHING BUT THE FACTS!!!

Hey don't be so harsh. After all Sonora faithful are responsible for more than just the 42 point mercy rule....They also got the District to paint the stadium a neutral color in a time when school's budgets are in a state of crisis. They also got Pop-Warner night eliminated from being one of the season funtions. we're not so bad....
dam you are so right sonora faithfull! at least they are making some changes to bad its not with the team and winning football games! instead of worrying about the statium colors they should be worrying about winning! LH deserves there colors there since sonora does play at LH high school! when they start winning football games then they can paint the stadium Blue and Gold!
hey whats up with you guys? why are we wallowing in the mud with the has beens and wanna bes. Im ashamed to be an indian if this is how far weve sunk. when in the past have we evre concerned ourselves with any body but la ahbra? their coaches and fans must be laughing their arses off if their concerned at all . come on tribe we have hill in the back field behind a good line and our linebackers led by greco are loaded, while the clan have an unproven defense so lets go tribe and set our sites on the main price ,de throning league champs.
tribe 42 la habra 21 2009
hey tribe whats up with you guys, bowin g down to the clan before the season starts. come on we are just as good as in the past and even better with greco and a corp of stud linebackers, when have we ever bowed down to mazzotta and his wanna be's. give me a break have we no shame.
they werent that bad, infact bet the clan jv are nervous about that game
Aroundthebases, this is a sports blog. Please find another place to blog about Test scores. Oh, and LH and Fullerton test scores would mirror that of SHHS and Troy, if they had similar Asian and Indian enrollment numbers. But, they don't.
What was the Fullerton freshmen teams record last year? How did they do in the Fwy League?
They were pretty bad. Not sure if they even beat BP.
