Congrats to Register boys athlete of the year Josh Samuels, a rare aquatics standout who crossed over into basketball this year and found success.
Samuels’ success in water polo and swimming should be viewed differently because they are very different sports. There is not much comparing the shooting, passing and wrestling Samuels did in water polo to the all-out, pure speed, stroke technique and timing that he showed as a sprinter in swimming.
I think Samuels’ victory is huge for high school aquatics in Southern California but will be hard to duplicate. Josh is a pretty special athlete.
