Tyler Matzek hit a 3-0 pitch into the seats just to the left of the right-field foul pole in the bottom of the sixth to give Capistrano Valley a 1-0 lead.

And Matzek is on the hill for the seventh inning.

capo leans on 2 people for the team. and thats it. if it wasnt for matzek capo would be nothing.. just how hobgood was nothin against md.. capo had a easy bracket going into the finals and they didnt even play anyone that opposed a real threat...

capo was probably thrilled md didnt make it into the finals because every true Capo fan knows that mater dei just hands them a loss every time they play against each other. MD knocks capo off everytime they face each other. MD had a rough semi final game and couldnt get by but on the bright side. every position player is comin back except 2 spots. their losing 3 pitchers but other than that mater dei will have a good season to come and capo will be like a dog drowning barely staying above to breathe...

although capo won tonight.. well hold on although tyler won because face it every player in that dugout says a prayer before they go to bed hopin tyler brings is A game and if not then the fat lady sings. so congrats tyler and hopefully your back isnt hurting from carrying the team the whole season. i know good chiropractor if you need one...

Wear it, Cougar hater. Envy & Greed go so well with Scarlet & Grey.

Capo may have done it with only 2-3 players.....but Mater Dei couldn't do it with 40+ players on their varsity roster with all their parents paying $1500 for their sons to have a spot on the roster.

They could have come to Capo Valley and played baseball for free and won the school's 6th CIF Championship.

  • bbfreak says:

Boy that Matzek is quite the ball player! ! He is simply amazing! Great job CAPO!

  • B-Dog says:

CapoHater, I must say you take the cake.

Title #6 is rather sweet. Great job to all the players and all the coaches. Another shutout.

  • cougar hater says:

its fine cougar den.. its a team sport and mater dei lost as a team but it wasnt one person who lost the game for md. but its been the tyler matzek show all year instead of the capo valley high school program...

md guys know when to atleast take when the coach tells them too.. he even said i wasnt sure if he told me to take but i wasnt going to let the fastball go bye if i saw one.. umm only thinking about himself a little dont you think..

but wait u never commented on the fact mater dei hands capo a loss every time they face them.. i cant remember what happend to chambers at Hart Park. I cant remember how many did they post on him?? can u remind me...

  • flat top jimmy says:

not gonna lie MD has a pretty stacked team. they just had a tough unlucky game against edison but thats baseball for ya. gona agree with cougar hater it is a team sport and not a one man show, like track and field for example, where the entire state revolves around Michael Woepse, the STATE champion pole vaulter from MD. i would also like to say that MD will have a solid squad next year. i expect big things from pitcher Fletcher Della Grotta. his brother lived the dream and was quite the ball player for MD in the early 2000's and took his game to Pepperdine, and eventually got drafted by Tampa. this kid will have a solid year next year on the mound for the monarchs.

  • Blah Blah Blah says:

no capo has room on their fence to put a sixth title up.

there is this big gap on there wall when they didn't win a league title for like 8 years.

oh wait that was when MD was in their league.

so i think there is room out there.

  • cougar hater says:

blah blah blah... u r correct about that.. i didnt even think of that..

if they need room we might have room in our old gym for a banner.. but wait thats all filled up too..

As a very proud Edison parent just returning from our end of the season banquet I must say it is an embarrassment as an adult to read what is written here. Who did Capo Valley SURVIVE lastnight...Mater Dei or Edison? (not my words..it's the headline)

Capo Valley played a great game. Formidable opponent. Props to the victory...great fielding, Chambers pitched an excellent game, fans are respectful (with just a few exceptions that post here and more than likely have self esteem issues) and from what I previously read and saw lastnight a very good coach. Not to worry...I'm not forgetting to mention Matzek. What an athlete..the young man is impressive at every position and I guess his hitting goes without saying...it was your night.

A tiny glimpse into Edison...Kurt Heyer, multiple recognitions as a Scholar Athlete, Baseball awards that could probably fill every wall of a home, pitched the e n t i r e game...that's right...e n t i r e game. Kurt never wavered, he understands that he alone cannot win a game. It takes a team..all of them...our catcher is a wall, if it gets past our infield...it's a good hit and the wheels on our outfield back those guys up and made outstanding plays this season. On the bench coming off an amazing victory against MD...Henry Owens. Henry is a sophomore...ouch.

My point with this novella...one man does not make a team..one man does not win a game. A team pulls together during tough times and more so in good. The coaches mentor them as a group and this year Lambright, Capucilli, Tallman (s) both of you!...did just that.

Edison kicked butt lastnight. Based on the lack of mention here, perhaps you see that our team will be back with a vengeance next year. Smell the fear...

Congratulations Capo Valley and Tyler. 1-0 was not an easy win.

To the best group of guys, thanks for a tremendous season, making us so proud of you. CHARGERS ROCK! Not just one of you...all of you.

  • capo parent says:

Anonymous blogs where you can change your name with each post should not exist. Shame on the OC Register for such a poor format.

Lovethegame, some bloggers do not represent our team very well. Actually for the most part our players, parents and fans are great. It has been a wonderful four years with this group culminating in a dream of a win. All of our players contributed.

One or two people with poor character can really taint something cant they?

I assure you the rest of us just want to congratulate you on a fantastic season and your play on Sat. night. Kurt Heyer was a righthanded batters nightmare. The movement he gets on his ball is just outstanding. Your fielding was great and your hitters worked hard.

You will be just as good next year. Your whole team was classy as were your fans.

You said it best. CHARGERS ROCK! Not just one of you…all of you.

    Best of luck next year.

  • lovethegame says:

capo parent...thanks so much and I'm sure that is not just from me but all of our supporters. Yeah...you are right...just a few idiots can taint an entire teams image. That's ok..hiding behind an anonymous name on a blog is cowardice. While my full name is not posted...the only thing I will write about are the positives which is easy since most of us behave like adults. Your fans were gracious at the field as well as after the game. It would be AMAZING to meet next year. Thanks so much for your kind words...Saturday is a day none of us will forget!

  • lovethegame says:

While Ms Cougar Den has ruined many an afternoon for some of us...let's not allow our water to seek that murky level. And...if it is Mr Cougar Den...then we all know he has issues. Ignore the comments and enjoy healthy banter...that's what it's all about isn't it? CD's rants remind me of a sweet mix of Robert Duvall and Will Ferrel in "Kicking and Screaming". Getting a visual?

MD as an opponent was a class act as well. As a parent I decidedly opted to ignore the hype for any of our opponents which could perhaps be exactly what our players did during the playoffs. Every game we played all season were for our two teammates that left us too soon. I would venture to say we played most of our games as if it were our last...memories were made, victories were sweet and defeat was a lesson.

Ignore Cougar Den and he will be just like the elementary school bully...an outcast, alone and embarrassed.

Good luck Tyler Matzek on Tuesday...make your parents, teammates, coach and even your opponents proud.

  • flat top jimmy says:

i would like to say in the utmost respect that edison is a very respectable ball club. i would also like to say watch out for MD again next year. they aint losin many fellas. look for catcher konnor armijo and pitchers fletcher della grotta and michael "hackjob" dunleavy to have phenominal seasons.

I was soooo hoping someone would comment on the "soft writings" I've posted here but figured after the embarrassing posturing earlier in the season and the lack of visibility of parmenter...I elected NOT to jinx our players and put even more pressure than they and our coaches do to themselves. I do, from the bottom of the black hole in my chest where a heart should reside, remember the ugliness that first turned me on to this pasttime. I truly have no doubt that you and your fine son were pulling for the Chargers...just like we would have done for Marina. But...I wonder how ugly this site would have gotten had it been Edison vs Marina last Saturday. It went down that dead end highway when we played each other every time this season...so...my soft writings are thanks to you. High road gets you where you want to go without dissing your opponent. While our team may not mirror my writings, they display outstanding sportsmanship on the field, respect the game, their opponents, coaches and of course...family.

  • bingobiotch says:

Parmenter you never cease to amaze me. Thank you for the kind words. Good luck to Race and all that he does in life. Believe it or not, for all the bantering online we do, I have great respect for you and your son. Take care and I am sure we will see you around the ball field!! Respectfully,
    Kristin

hey Cougar den, whats your deal that you feel it is awesome to live your life off of high school kids accomplishments. your "team" is nothing . your star, your shinning "star" is all that you have holding your team. He has proved himself and should be proud , not you! you don't do anything but ride the wagon and talk trash on everyone else (I meant Mater Dei). Don't be proud of yourself for a great year and dont act like you have the right to run your little mouth and talk garbage on another school that you clearly have no Freakin' idea about. you should be ashamed that you would even mock the school name and bring any type of religion into this. clearly you have issues.

  • parmenter says:

Edison Baseball 2009! Guys seriously, great yar, this team is no way indicative of the SOFT writings of lovethegame. On the contrary, they are the complete opposite. Avry tough, had nosed team with a football mentality and alot of heart! race and I were both hoping for an Edison victory!
The coaches are very tough, loving, and push this team. Iam proud of all of you and your HB roots! it was a long tough road for basebal lin a beach/surf town. Summers i riverside, murrieta, chino hills, remember? Heres the payoff for all that hard work! Take it and run and keep being successful in LIFE!!!
