For the first time in three seasons, there's a new champion in Division I.
Thousand Oaks held on to defeat University, 10-8, and win the school's first CIF-SS Div. I championship. The Trojans, who were the two-time defending champs, made their fourth consecutive final appearance.
Thousand Oaks was up 9-7 in sets, and leading by five games, with John Huang-Denis Lin and Matt Siow-Marcos Giron playing. Huang led 4-3 and Siow 3-2. University had a chance to make up the game deficit and take the match.
However, the Lancers were too tough. Huang beat Lin in a tiebreaker, the only set the Lancers singles players lost in the postseason. Siow lost to Giron 5-7.
In other scores:
Claremont had 9 sets after Round 2 and has clinched the Division III title over Valencia. The Wolfpack took the match 13-5.
