    Vote for Cindy Tran

  • OC Coach says:

Last night I was monitoring the Female Athlete of the year voting and in particular the battle between Tiffany Corder and Cindy Tran. Both athletes were neck in neck, around 1600 votes each. Between 8:30 and 10:00 the votes for Tran suddenly jumped from 1600 to 5317. From 10:00 to 10:30 the votes jumped from 5317 to 6254. From 10:30 to 10:45 the votes jumped from 6254 to 6500. How does an athlete get almost 5000 votes in a two hour and fifteen minute window? Obviously some type of voting system was created to increase the amount of votes for Tran. This is not right nor is it fair to any other female athlete in the contest. The voting might as well stop now and the award be given out. No other female athlete has a chance against this type of voting. I do not accuse Ms Tran of any wrong doing. She and Tiffany Corder are fine athletes. It is a shame for this type of voting to be allowed.

This is not a supprise for me, Cindy is well known in the swimming world.
She just got back from Junior National Meet in Vancouver yesterday afternoon.
She have friends and fans from all over the country, they show support for her. As her fan myseft, I’m proud of her accomplisements.

    • OC Skipper says:

it has jumped for Tiffany as well….both athletes have been jumping over each other all week.

      • HS SportsFan1 says:

Until last night that was a true and reasonable observation. It has been a close vote. However, there is now no comparison to an athlete jumping 5000 votes in just over 2 hours. Where did 5000 votes suddenly appear from? Furthermore, I distinctly remember when the 2nd round of voting was announced that you, OC Skipper posted that it was unfair to match up Ms. Tran against Sports Illustrated athlete Tiffany Corder whose resume by your own admission was excellent. In fact following is your exact post that I copied to remind you of how unfair you felt the match-up was to Ms. Tran. I see that no longer concerns you after 5000 individual mystery votes appeared.

May 22, 2009 at 7:19 pmi love how cindy tran has to up against the top basketball girl from MATER DIA…& now Tiffany Corder who has an excellent resume…come on…

whatever cindy will still come up on top !

    • Kiki R. says:

How? The wonders of Face Book and Twitter…….

      • Swimchix says:

the facebook world…. and cindy has the support of her fellow swimmers… we are just more united i guess….

  • HS SportsFan1 says:

It’s clear that the voting is not doing what it was intended to do. I too watched the voting for ONLY four minutes last night from 9:35 pm to 9:39 pm. Ms. Tran’s votes went from 2852 to 3398. That’s 546 votes in four minutes. How is that possible? It’s too bad because all of these athletes, including Ms. Tran, deserve recognition and have all worked very hard putting in countless hours of training and have made huge sacrifices to be able to perform at these levels. To be a true reflection of the fans voting, the voting online would have to be limited to a certain number of votes per computer.

Ms. Corder it has truly been a pleasure reading about you on OC Varsity and in the papers this year, Sports Illustrated, and ESPN. For an athlete to have a full-ride scholarship in one sport (softball) and still be receiving National Recognition in another is truly remarkable. You should be very proud. Best of luck!

  • NCAASwimMom says:

I agree that The Register is not being helpful in supplying a resume for each of their nominated athletes. Even if it did, how does one compare the accomplishments of an athlete in team sports like soccer and softball to accomplishments in swimming? I have not a clue.

On the other hand, Cindy Tran is one of the most talented swimmers in the United States — ever . As a sport, swimming has the advantage of an objective standard by which to evaluate — to the hundreth of a second.

Cindy’s backstroke split on the 200 Medley Relay (24.63) was the fastest of all the girls and also beat most of the boys.

In high school, Cindy Tran lead her Edison team to a CIF Girls’ Div 1 Team Championship, claimed two CIF individual titles for herself year, as well as a being a member of two CIF champion relays. In CIF competition, a swimmer is limited to 2 individual events and 2 relays. In a word, she was perfect.

This year, Cindy also managed to break Olympian and world record holder Natalie Coughlin’s National Age Group Record in 100 backstroke this year (52.52), and represent the United States in an international meet in Canada.

  • swimfasthavefun says:

Swimmers in general get very little recognition for their hard work. The swimming community is a very close knit group of over achievers. When one of their own get a chance at some notoriety the word spreads and the votes keep adding up.
By all accounts Cindy Tran is a most deserving athlete.

  • Tiffany Corder says:

I wanted to come online and say thank you to all the voters who have supported me in this contest. Only 16 girls were even selected to represent Orange County, and that in itself is a tremendous honor. Every one of the female candidates here are worthy of recognition and have accomplished great things this year. To win this competition would be awesome, but to be honest, I am also just as honored to have been selected as a candidate in the first place. There are so many phenomenal athletes in Orange County that choosing one to say is the best is really an impossible task. So thanks for all the support =]

  • What a class act Ms. Corder you were jobbed because you are in the real world the oc top female athlete

  • Swimchick says:

    Well with those who are concerned with the amount of votes cindy got in the small amount of time take some time to consider this;

A great athlete not only is someone who preforms well but also someone who has a great attitude and is just a good person in general. Someone who can lose and win with pride and dignity.

The fact that all those people felt she is a good enough athlete and person to win just shows it. They vote multiple times because they think she deserves it.

    • OC Athletics Fan says:

Please read the post by Tiffany Corder herself to see a perfect example of an outstanding athlete who has learned how to win and lose with pride, dignity, and appreciation for those around her who have supported her endeavors.

  • robby says:

this is such a popularity contest . . . . like a highschool prom dance. you know all these people just have their friends and family constantly vote for them!!

  • Sunset League says:

All these girls are very talented and deserve the attention. Yet, ask any Sunset League AD or Pac 10 College Soccer Coach or Pac 10 College Softball Coach and the name they mention is Mariah Nogueira. She signed with Stanford for soccer and may play softball as well. There is not another female athlete with the skills to play both sports at a high level in the Pac 10.
She is the Sunset League Athlete of the year which is considered the most balanced and toughest league including the Trinity League
