It was a county sweep in singles, with Mater Dei the big winner.
Chris Freeman and Charlie Alvarado won all three rounds for the Monarchs, as did Warren Hardie (Dana Hills) and John Huang (University).
All four players advance to next Friday’s quarterfinals at Seal Beach Tennis Center.
Freeman beat Corona del Mar’s Ryan Peyton 6-4, 6-4 to move on.
Alvarado defeated Viewpoint’s Bryce Beisswanger 6-1, 6-2
Hardie beat Santa Monica’s Christobol Rivera 6-1, 6-3.
Huang beat Jharen Gines (Arlington) 6-0, 6-1.
The doubles are finished up.
University’s Reo Asami and Matt Siow are through to next Friday. They beat Santa Margarita’s Ali Makmalchi and Tyler Woodward.
Parker Rhodes and Chris Damion (Corona del Mar) are also through. Mikely Zablan and Andre Halabi (Woodbridge) won their first set.
Mater Dei’ Justin Agbayani and Brian Hoang are facing Dana Hills’ Jim Myers and Trevor Dell right now.
More from the boys tennis blog:
Myers/Dell lost to Agbayani/Hoang 2-6, 7-6, 6-10. It was a great match and unfortunate that someone had to lose. Both are excellent doubles teams and are deserving of being in the round of 16. Excellent match.
