Boys volleyball: The postseason top 10

boys_volleyball_iconI thought ranking the teams during the regular season was a tough task. Trying to put together my unofficial top 10 of the postseason is proving more difficult even.

I still gave it a go. Check it out and let me know your thoughts on it.

1. Santa Margarita: Eagles are smoking hot. With Newport Harbor losing, and San Clemente banged up I give them the nod as the county’s best right now.

2. Orange Lutheran: Lancers are tough. They beat San Clemente early this year without one of the starters who is out, and therefore they go ahead of San Clemente.

3. San Clemente: The Tritons are hurt and their depth will be tested against St. John Bosco. They are still very good however.

4. Mater Dei: Here is where it starts to get really confusing. Mater Dei beat Bosco, which beat Newport Harbor, so I ranked Mater Dei here instead of Newport Harbor.

5. Newport Harbor: They lost to Bosco and that ended their win streak in an untimely fashion. A solid team nonetheless.

6. Esperanza: The Aztecs could be ranked as high as No. 4 to me, but I couldn’t put them ahead of the Sailors, who beat them three times this season. However, Esperanza seems to do fine against everyone else.

7. Corona del Mar: The Sea Kings lost to Newport Harbor in five games, like the Aztecs did once. I gave Esperanza the edge in this poll because of the tougher league schedule.

8. Edison: Chargers finished tied for second in the Sunset League, then opened up the playoffs with a solid victory over Crespi.

9. Huntington Beach: The Oilers split the Sea View League title with Foothill, then beat Beckman in the first round.

10: Foothill: It came down to Laguna Beach and the Knights. I choose Foothill because the Knights have played a tougher schedule recently, and beat Harvard-Westlake in the first round.
