It’s on to Round 2 of the boys volleyball playoffs.
A breakdown of what’s happening:
Division I
Teams remaining: 16
County teams remaining: 10 (Dana Hills; Orange Lutheran; San Clemente; Foothill; Edison; Mater Dei; Corona del Mar; Santa Margarita; Esperanza; Huntington Beach)
Matches: Top half: Loyola-Dana Hills; Palos Verdes-Orange Lutheran; St. John Bosco-San Clemente; Foothill-LB Wilson; Bottom half: Santa Barbara-Edison; Mater Dei-Corona del Mar; Santa Margarita-Esperanza; Huntington Beach-Mira Costa
Outlook: With two county-county match ups, two teams are guaranteed to go home in the second round. Dana Hills and Huntington Beach, facing the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds respectively, would seem to be right behind them. As for the rest, Orange Lutheran has the best chances of advancing. It’s going to be a tough job for San Clemente to overcome their injuries and beat Bosco. Edison has an outside shot at Santa Barbara if they play clean enough. And though Wilson is a big favorite over Foothill, the Knights have a X-factor that could swing that match.
