boys_golf_iconFor the third consecutive round, Servite junior Patrick Cantlay posted a score in the 60s, his most recent coming Monday at Skylinks in Long Beach when he won the CIF-SS Individual Regional by two strokes.

His last three scorecards have looked like this: 8-under 64 at Tijeras Creek, 2-under 69 at Rancho San Marcos in Santa Barbara, and a 7-under 65 on Monday at Skylinks.

In his last 54 holes, he’s eagled a par-4 after driving the green, posted 13 birdies, including seven on Monday, and had only two bogeys. Monday’s round during the CIF Individuals was bogey-free.

“I think it (the CIF postseason matches) mean more. But we are playing 18 holes, not nine, so you can get a little momentum going,” Cantlay said. “And I have been working hard and it is all starting to come together for me.”

Gahr’s Anthony Kim finished second with a 5-under 67 and Long Beach Wilson’s Boris Stantchev came in third after shooting a 3-under 69.

Villa Park’s Alex Bungert and Ryan Tetrault, Diwen Chen (Santa Margarita) and Mike Moorehead (Corona del Mar) all came in at 2-under 70 and were among the 30 players to advance to the Southern Section championships, which will be held on May 26 at Hacienda Golf Club.

Eleven players shot a 2-over 74, but only seven of them could make it to the section championships. Servite’s Nick Komin birdied the first playoff hole and earned a spot at Hacienda. Matt Wilson (Villa Park) and Jem Young (Marina) also made it through the playoff.
