Baseball games of the week: La Habra vs. Fullerton

May 6th, 2009, 12:54 am · · posted by

This week I am picking the Top 5 Series of the Week. Here is one of them:

baseball_iconLa Habra (14-6, 8-3) vs. Fullerton (14-4, 9-2)

When: Wednesday at Fullerton; Friday at La Habra

Outlook: A lot can change from week to week in baseball. Just ask the Fullerton Indians.

Last week, Fullerton had a three-game lead in the Freeway League. Then the Indians were swept by Sonora and all of a sudden, there is a fight for the league title.

Fullerton leads La Habra and Sonora by one game. The Raiders are playing Troy this week.

The key to the week for Fullerton will be how the pitching staff handles the La Habra offense.

The Highlanders scored 33 runs in two games against Sunny Hills last week. They have hit double-figures in runs in three of the previous four games.

Fullerton won the first game between the teams, 10-1, on April 1.

Can Fullerton regain its composure?

Will La Habra pound its way to a sweep?

What about Sonora?

Yes, folks, there is a fight going on in the Freeway League.

(All games start at 3:15 p.m. unless noted)
*Records are through May 4

  • Fullerton will sweep both games from La Habra. Sunny Hills, although a necessary opponent for La Habra served zero purpose in preparing for Fullerton. Sunny Hills is a 4 inning team. Fullerton plays all 7 innings. Fullerton plays serious baseball. La Habra can get it close, but in the end will lose out to better talent. Troy seeking an identity will give Sonora all it can handle…………no sweep here for Sonora.

to aroundthebases i bet you siad the same thing last week against sonora, but what happened? and la habra took 2 out of 3 from raiders. remember it hasnt been that long since garvey totally man handled sonoras lineup, and then sonora rolls in and beats you guys, so when do you break ouy of slump.like 05 highlanders showed, its not how you start, its how you finish, especially in baseball

People tend to forget that even though Sonora won the last two games against Fullerton, the Indians do have a victory over them. By the way, Fullerton just swept La Habra this week, one close game and a blow out, 12 to 1. This put’s Fullerton up by 2 games over sonora and 3 games over La Habra. How’s that for breaking out of a slump!!!!

to around the bases. I will do something you rarely see on these blogs. I wil humbly concede.congrats on rapping up league championship, its been awhile and well deserved . I will stick with my opinion though that clan will get further in playoffs than you guys or sonora, they allways do.

To:glass half full, when wrapping something up, it’s customary to figure out what’s in the package before you tape it up. Just a thought

  • Not over yet………….Prediction was always Fullerton. The Freeway league this year is more competitive from top to bottom than ever before. With Troy surprising Sonora , (as I predicted) that gives Fullerton a little breathing room. Friday games will set the tone for the final week when La Habra has the schedule advantage with Buena Park. Both Troy and Sunny Hills have shown they can put together an A game. It was Sunny Hills last year that beat Sonora on their field to erase their winning streak. Troy hates Fullerton more than life its self. These last 3 league games should be very good. Fullerton is most vulnerable Friday with it’s pitching dropping off, look for both Lorenzen and Ficocello to pitch if necessary to win the game. If La Habra gets on top early Fullerton will have it’s hands full a come back effort at La Habra not easily done.

  • It’s Baseball……………….not Football. La Habra has years to go before they can intimidate the likes of Fullerton. You would at least think La Habra would show up. So much for all of the press clippings for the Highlanders……………..Fullerton did what they needed to do before the final season series with Troy. Roll on Tribe.
