It’s the final week of the regular season, and we’ve already had a big result happen on Monday night with Santa Margarita defeating Orange Lutheran in five games.
Here’s a look at some more action-packed thrillers Tuesday:
No. 10 Huntington Beach at No. 9 Foothill (Sea View League, 5:30 pm)
This is for the league championship, with Foothill owning the inside track after defeating Huntington Beach in four games in the first meeting. Think the Oilers will be fired up? This match is also big come playoff seeding. Last time out the Knights’ Dane Worley gave the HB defense fits all match. The Oilers are going to need to slow him down this time around. It will also help if they can get off to a quick start and take the home fans down a notch in noise. However, if Worley gets rolling and is feeling it at home, the Oilers could be in trouble once more.
No. 8 Edison at No. 1 Newport Harbor (Sunset League, 5:30 pm)
You can make a case that each team needs to win this game more than the other. The best the Chargers can do this week is share the title with the Sailors. Newport Harbor, on the other hand, is close to receiving – more than likely – the county’s highest seed come the playoffs. The Sailors would like to finish strong and earn that seed. The Chargers would like to prevent that, and help their seeding-argument come playoffs.
Laguna Hills at Beckman (Pacific Coast League, 5:15 pm)
The Patriots (3-3) are in third place. The Hawks (2-4) are in fourth. Beckman swept Laguna Hills the first time around, and victory this time would clinch a playoff spot. However, Laguna Hills can move into a share of third place if they can spring the upset to keep their playoff hopes alive. If that’s not motivation, I’m not sure what it is.
