The Comanches sophomore had a giant week. It opened on Monday with a 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 8 Villa Park. Nguyen next beat Brea Olinda 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 as Canyon defeated the Wildcats on games. He finished his week by reaching the semifinals of the prestigious The Ojai, where he lost to the No. 1 seed in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 2-6. In the process, he avenged last year’s first-round loss in Ojai by beating San Luis Obispo’s Julian Arnold, who has committed to UCLA, in the Round of 16 in straight sets.
