Outlook: I think it would be safe to say that the race for third playoff spot in the Sunset League is up in the air.

The two-time defending Sunset League champion Griffins start the week tied for third with Newport Harbor.

The Griffins picked up a big split with Newport Harbor last week after a 3-1 victory Friday.

Esperanza enters the week in last place. The Aztecs went 3-1 in the National Classic to finish third, but returned the league play with a 6-0 loss to Edison.

This is Esperanza’s shot at making the playoffs. After this week, the Aztecs will have a home-and-home series with Newport Harbor.

Can the Aztecs turn things around? Los Alamitos defeated Esperanza, 11-8, in the first meeting this season.
