Wednesday: Fountain Valley (8-7, 1-4) at No. 4 Marina (14-2, 4-1), 3:15 p.m.
Outlook: I think there could be quite a debate over who has the best pitching staff in the county?
Well, Marina certainly stated its case at the Darryl Kile Memorial Tournament last week. Marina allowed one run in four games.
You want more?
The Vikings allowed 10 hits in the four games. Simply amazing.
Now, Marina heads back into Sunset League play with a doubleheader against Fountain Valley.
The Vikings shut out the Barons, 5-0, in the first meeting. Fountain Valley won the Beach Pit Classic last week.
I wouldn’t want to face Marina in a two-game series.

FV stands NO chance!
ya so the game was at fountain valley and marina won 16 to 4
jj baccari hit 4, yes 4, homeruns. chad lewis also homered and his ball landed in another state.
adam scotts landed in a diffrent country over the net shot
calm down the wind was blowing out, none of them leave if its not.
Marina is a very strong team and yes the wind helped 3 of the 6HRs.
I’m not taking anything away from JJ’s 4 HRs. He had a once in a lifetime day. WTG
Marina’s coaching staff as far as I’m concerned does not know how to win with class and in my opinion does not respect the game of baseball. Let me explain myself…. In the top of the 6th inning after 3 runs had cross home and the game was out of reach (11-4). Marina’s coaching staff called a double steal. This was deliberate and the coaches can’t hide behind the excuse that it was non-starter that missed a call as in the game against Los Al… which now I have my doubts.
I have heard that this is the way he coaches the game and he is the coach. Totally bush league!
I’m a little disappointed with FV coaches not sticking up for the game and players… nothing was said or done.
lol ur obviously not very bright when it comes to the game of baseball guy. a 7 run lead is not big at all. in that game in fact, fv scored 4 straight runs to put pressure on marina. so if they did that again, its only a 3 run game and with the wind that day, anything was possible
the fv coaches didnt do anything because there was nothing to be done and because that was just a team playing baseball.
and also, if u remember, marina put almost all of there reserve players in and still put a couple of runs on the board. so next time, before u say something and make a fool out of urself again, think about what you are going to say first
ok the fv guys homer barely cleared the net and lewis`s nearly cleared the houses that are a good 50 to 70 feet behind the fence. and why does nobody talk about other teams running up scores? i guess it is ok that los al does it.
baseball4life can u hit one over the net?
its 80 feet high and it hit a house? it woulda went out even with out the wind.
chad lewis shot was an absolute blast. No ball deserves that beating.
And plus the fv guy who hit the homer is 5 7
and he hit one over the net? give him props.
chad lewis is what 6 5? big height diffrence but none the less lewis is a beast.
hey 2pac height means very little in the game of baseball. look at a guy like pedroia. what is he 5 7 and he wins an mvp. lincecum 5 9 or 5 10 and he throws mid to upper 90′s and cy young. and look at norcos SS and #2 pitcher. 5 9 and throwing low to mid 90s. so ya hheight means little in baseball. nice try tho
You are obvously not a guru of the game as your name suggest. I have a suggestion for you and your coaches. You should do a little reading up on the unwritten rules of baseball.
“Here we have the core of what keeps baseball civil, baseballs’ unwritten rules. Some of the rules here are old baseball axioms on the right way to play the game. A lack of knowledge with them will detract from your game, but not create on field conflict. Others, however, will immediately evoke a negative response.
While these rules are not written down in a rule book, players at all levels are expected to know “the right way to do things”. It is that failure to do things the right way that emmanently leads to on field conflict, a problem seen with ever increasing frequency with each passing year.
Coaches of amateur and youth baseball teams have a responsibility to know, and teach, unwritten rules to their players.
There are intangibles that coaches can instill in their players. Honesty, pride, work ethic, discipline, winning and losing with dignity, never give up attitude, teamwork and respect for other individuals, to name a few.
When that player leaves you and moves forward, even if he never plays baseball again, he does have to interact with other human beings the rest of his life.
In a game in which fewer than 1% of all baseball players reach the major leagues, and approximately only 7% play in college, what is it you will have given them when their season is finished and their baseball careers are over?
When they put away the bats and balls for the last time, you will have left them with a foundation of values to build upon in all aspects for the rest of their lives. Therein lies the true legacy of baseball and coaching!”
It’s obvous that Marina’s coaches do not teach this and why it reslults in conflicts.
“Never steal a base, or bunt, when leading by a bunch of runs. You have to get a feel for the game, and know when enough is enough. Best philosophy ~ You don’t stop competing; but you do stop manufacturing runs.”
Respect of the game!
Respect for the history of the game!
Respect of your opponents!
Schools out.
FV’s coaching staff doesn’t have enough baseball knowledge to coach a T-Ball team!
Why keep pitching to a batter that keeps hitting HR after HR?
let’s talk baseball at: http://www.ocvarsity.com/share/forums/
BB77 nice essay, u should go to a marina practice, or at least talk to their coach. paul renfrow has been coaching marina for 20+ years and is well respected around the baseball community.
Renfrow is much more respected than the FV coach!
BB77…well thought out, well written and not much left to say. I don’t coach…I’m a parent and those all all the qualities I want my son to display. On and off the field and thru life. Out
