Boys tennis: Playing with two forehands and two backhands

boys_tennis_iconYou read the headline correctly. We love the unusual and it’s taking place at Laguna Beach.

I saw it for myself today and will now introduce you as well. Meet Chris Lavery, the first tennis player I have seen to have two forehands, two backhands, and the ability to serve right and left handed.

My background is in tennis. I have played the sport and watched it since I was 7. This blows me away.

Yes, Chris is ambidextrous. He wasn’t born that way, but rather he was taught by his dad, Michael, who has two other sons who both play ambidextrous tennis. In short, Michael is probably the king of ambidexterity.

It was an experience to watch him play this afternoon. He could hit two-handed backhands from either wing, or one-handed forehands from either side. I tried to pick a pattern, or figure out when he decided to hit what, but it was hard to decipher any thing like that.

Stay tuned. This is a developing story I think.
