What happened: The Breakers captured 8 of 9 singles sets and defeated St. Margaret’s, 14-4, in nonleague play Thursday at Rancho San Clemente Tennis Club.
Impact: Coach Aaron Talarico especially liked the victory. He was using the match to gauge his team.
The Breakers started the season without three players who were in Thursday’s lineup. The trio returned about three weeks ago and Laguna’s results have continued to improve.
“The guys showed up and competed today,” Talarico said. “I’m happy with the performance top to bottom.”
The trio: It is Chris Lavery at No. 2 singles, Benito Romeo at No. 3 singles, and Hutton McKenna at No. 3 doubles. Lavery swept his sets Thursday, and Romeo and McKenna each won two.
Sweeps: No. 1 singles Jake Michaels 6-1, 6-1, 6-0; No. 2 singles Chris Lavery 6-2, 6-2, 6-4
