The weather was hot outdoors Monday. The heat shifts indoors Tuesday.
Here’s a trio of scorchers to follow:
No. 10 Santa Margarita at No. 3 Orange Lutheran (Trinity League, 6pm)
The Eagles soar in at 3-0, coming off a big victory over Mater Dei on Thursday that kept Santa Margarita alone in first place. The Lancers enter at 2-1, suffering their first league loss to St. John Bosco last week. It was one of two five-game defeats (Mira Costa) for the Lancers. Think they’ll be hungry for this one? The match has huge implications. An Eagles win and they become the favorite for the title. And Lutheran doesn’t want to fall to 2-2, and be on a three-game losing streak. Not to mention the showdown between Maurice Torres and Tanner Jansen. Arrive early and bring lots of energy. The same goes for the fans.
St. John Bosco at No. 9 Mater Dei (Trinity League, 6pm)
Both squads enter at 2-1, tied with Orange Lutheran for second place. And though the league season is young, there’s already history between the Monarchs and Braves. Mater Dei pulled out a five-game victory to open league play on the road. After upsetting Orange Lutheran last week, Bosco will focus on the Monarchs this week, and try to get some revenge in the process. This one is also huge for the league race. Mater Dei could pick up a tiebreaker-friendly victory, while the Braves know the importance of splitting the season series. Plus, if OLu beats Santa Margarita, the winner of this match moves into a first-place tie.
Cypress at Loara (Empire League, 5:30 pm)
The Saxons have played one more league game than the Centurions, but both are perfect. Cypress comes in at 2-0, and looking to knock Loara off its perch atop the standings. The Saxons are 3-0 and their biggest obstacle appears to be Cypress. Anytime first place is up for grabs, it’s a match worth watching.
