Wednesday: Servite (6-7, 1-5) at Santa Margarita (7-6, 3-3, 3:15 p.m.
Outlook: Just how did the Eagles lose the first meeting of the week between these two teams?
The Eagles smashed five home runs, two apiece from Robert Kelly and Trayce Thompson. Also, Santa Margarita led 8-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
That’s when Servite rallied for six runs for a 9-8 victory and its first league victory.
Santa Margarita is reeling, having lost three consecutive league games since beating the county’s No. 1-ranked team, Mater Dei, on March 27.
The Eagles do have quite the slugging duo in Kelly and Thompson. Kelly has five home runs this season and Thompson, formerly of the Santa Margarita basketball program, has a county-leading six homers.
Kelly is 4-1 on the mound with a 1.96 ERA.
The Eagles won the first meeting between the teams, 7-3, on March 21. And — surprise – Thompson hit a home run in.
Will he go deep again?
