Wednesday: No. 8 JSerra (8-5, 4-2) at No. 1 Mater Dei (12-1, 5-1), 6 p.m.

Outlook: The Lions dropped their league opener to Mater Dei, 4-1, on March 20 and were on a roll until losing again to the Monarchs, 3-1, on Monday.

In between those losses, the Lions allowed only two runs in four games.

They defeated Orange Lutheran, 10-2, and shut out St. John Bosco, Servite and Santa Margarita.

What a run.

Joe Kurrasch (4-1, 0.90 ERA) pitched two of those shutouts. He pitched Saturday, so this could be his turn to take the mound.

JSerra’s shutout streak ended Monday when Mater Dei scored three runs in the fourth.

Last week, the Monarchs picked up a 10-1 victory over Orange Lutheran. Aaron Northcraft (4-1, 1.02 ERA) pitched into the seventh to get the victory.

Kurrasch and Northcraft met in the first meeting between the teams, with Northcraft getting the victory.

Derek Campbell has been contributing some big hits lately for the Monarchs. He drove in the game-tying and winning runs against St. John Bosco last week, and he hit a two-run home run against Orange Lutheran on Saturday.

Dylan Christensen is hitting .500 for the Lions and Colton Plaia is hitting .452.
