Golf: New OC tourney coming

March 30th, 2009, 11:56 am · · posted by

University golf coach Michael Bova has sent out applications to the 66 coaches in Orange County asking for nominations to participate in the inaugural high school tournament that will he said will effectivley determine the OC Boys and Girls Player of the Year. It will be held on June 23 at Oak Creek County Club beginning with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.
He hopes to have 144 players in the tournament, and will take entries until the end of May.
Once Bova reveives the nominations, he will call the players to invite them to participate. Bova said he wants this to be a “high-caliber” field, so only players who can shoot 80 or below will be allowed to enter. The field will be filled on a first-come-first served basis.  The winner of each division will be presented with a belt buckle designed by 59 Belts, whose client list includes PGA star Anthony Kim.
Bova has been talking to golf coaches from the Pac-10 and UCLA’s Carrie Forsyth, Bova said, has expressed some interest in attending. In the future, Bova would like to break this tournament up, having the boys play on one day and the girls on another.
