Totally screwed up - are you telling me that you would take Minato over Keitra Wallace of Brea, played in the state final - LOL - uhhh not even close dude, please tell me you forgot about her as otherwise I'd think you seriously went braindead!
I think the choice of Kelsey Minato is warranted. I have watched this young girl through the years and her hard word and dedication are truly inspirational. It would seem that anyone who would say a disparaging word against Kelsey is braindead!
This isn't about next of kin, it's about basketball, lets compare, 5' 5 against 5' 11 won league, CIF title, State title on the #1 team in the country, played tough defense against the top players at AZ, Beach couldn't even make the top ten and had a great player on their team who let everyone else get easy shots and another freshman who I believed outscored Minato.
I'm just going to believe that you did just forget about Wallace as it isn't even close as stated above and also their were definitely other freshman who could have easily been chosen over that one.
Top 5 in order would be Adams, Ballestero, Lee, Olukemi, Wallace.
Jordan Adams rocks..........Freshman of Year!!! This girl is going places.
Maya Kennedy was the second leading scorer on Huntington Beach, so don't understand that choice.
Not sure what the criteria is here but did anyone happen to look what Monay Lee, El Dorado, did this year as freshman. Check the OC Varsity stats, NOT the school she attended. She scored more points in less games than both Mater Dei girls, C. Ballestero, Villa Park, and was only 9 points behind Minato, Huntington Beach. Olukemi, Brea Olinda, isn't even listed. What's criteria? Or is it whomever attends the right school will be noticed. Please check the stats first prior to putting out lists that are biased!
FYI- Monay Lee, El Dorado, made the 1st team in the Century League. Its amazing how these so called basketball "know -it- alls" let this slip by them.
3rd eye, whos being bias ? I think they got it right on this one . No way does lee belong on this group.FYI got it right about the kennedy girl from HB.Id pull off olukeme and put Kennedy on list.Imean the way her and Minato scored Oilers could be even better. I noticrd a couple Canyon freshmen too.
Disagree - they only scored because Noe was getting double teamed - Lee has a point she scored as a freshman and there were no stars on that team - reason she got no props is that she is in the same league as Brea, Bushmills had it right! It's kinda like your girl Bryant, no other player on her team to help can't give props to those who have it easy with a star on their team.
oh boy got to disagree . she was on a mediocre league team and she had dephillips by her side. not even in same class as bryant. lets not get crazy on my frosh is better than your frosh debates,we will see when theyre sophs. as for lee ,if you leave olukeme on the list you still have to acount for wallace at brea.
Are you saying Wallace should be on or off - I say Adams, Ballestero, Olukemi, Lee, Wallace - positions 1 thro 5. Wallace will probably play some 4 or 5 next year. I think the point was that Bryant didn't get any props. Hey ? What year is Bryant.
on and off, Im saying the oc list is just fine ,but you could go with wallace either way. by the way Bryant is soph,but since oh boy brought her up and compared lee to her I thought Id let him know that not in same class.just looks like 2 eldo fans being fans.
Not being a fan, just pointing out facts. The stats, stand alone. Give me facts, not opinions! As stated before Lee scored more points in less games than both Mater Dei girls & C. Ballestero. I wasn't comparing Lee to Bryant - I was saying that Bryant didn't get props for the team she was on and that I think lee may be in the same boat. Don't read whats not there.
And yes I would definitely take Wallace and then probably Lee, my ist would have included, Adams at PG, Ballestero at 2, Olukemi at 3, Wallace/Lee/Spears and probably a couple from Canyon as you say.
Both Brea girls are talented and will probably have great high school bball careers. But I don't believe either of them was a vital part or contributed as much as Lee did w/ her team. The Adams girl was a vital part to her team and deserves all the props she gets. The HB girl was a vital part to her team as was the Ballestero girl to her team. I don't mean to be questions everything but it seems as though some girls aren't look at or considered b/c they don't attend one of the premiere bball schools! If this is true, its a shame!
To say the Brea girls were not vital - don't think so noone wins a state title without those girls and you saw the big girl on TV, they will be needing those girls next year as the big girl is going backwards. HB had several girls who played their role and got easy buckets because of Noe - they will not be that lucky next year. ? is will Lee continue to improve - not sure on Eldo and will still not get any props in that league.
you guys and your facts dont seem to get it. olukeme 6th man 1st off bench. major role player on state champs. so if you got stats show me lee vs brea or lee vs vp maybe vs foothill, lag hills ect . not against elmo or tustin. with de phillips as a team maye they coukd have done better.and what 2 frosh[ 2HB girls] could put up 20s anite in sunset.
FYI not many teams have a player like Noe, don't underestimate her - it all comes down to team make ups, Foothill girl on another team could do the same but they were stacked with seniors, Canyon girls could do the same but they don't have a player who gets double teamed Brea girls would probably average 15 a game if they played all game and only had 1 superstar on their team so could the Spears girl on MD - you have to put it in perspective. You know how easy it is to score when there's always 1 player not being guarded - heck I'm sure most teams would love to have a player like Noe on their team. (she played on the top calsparks team last year and has a full ride to Santa Clara).
These type of players are always getting the full attention of the other team.

Maybe you should take your beef up w/ the Century League Coaches, who seemed to have left out Miss Olukeme for the All-Century League team. Wonder why? But you know who they didn't leave out was freshman Monay Lee. Who just happens to play against Brea, Villa Park and Canyon twice a year. All 3 three just happen to be playoff squads. All facts, no hype.
I'm sure the Lee girl will get better. She has to! Especially if she wants to compete w/ the likes of Brea, Villa Park and Canyon each year. **Maybe I'm not explaing myself fully.**** The Brea girls are good - no doubt. But I'm sure the Ladycats could have one the title w/ out the two freshman. HERES ANOTHER FACT FOR YOU GLASS HALF FULL***Eldo would not have made the playoffs w/ out Lee.
I think if you put any 2 of Adams, Ballestero, Olukeme, Wallace, Lee, Spears on HB and they would have been top ten, truth is Noe is such a high quality player that if they had any other toughness they would've been up there with Villa Park.
3rd eye ,you havent a clue. olukeme is still on all county freshman team ,not taking away from LEE but thats your fact. and where are these so called all league teams beimg posted. not here, not in the times so where.and how many players did your coach put up.I mean Sink cant get all his girls nominated,some body has to rep eldo so I agree shes the best at eldo.the writers were right on with their picks,since there are only 5. so wait till next year when money is a soph.if she steps up kudos, if not oh well.
to 3rd eye. were you even at the title game against materdei ? and if you know the game how could you make a statement like brea could have won state with out the freshmen.so when hartman gets 3 fouls in 1st hailf who do you put in nobody. when ervin gets tired who do you put in nobody? you see where this is going,that 6th and 7th player is vital to any champ team, and count the minutes olukeme olayed in sac town.it wasnt a blowout until second half when her and wallace had alot of min at start of half
**Mr. 1/2 full** I have nothing against urself, the young lady's on the list nor BOHS. My problem is w/ whomever made the list b/c they failed to expain themselves as far the criteria to get on the list. Its easy to say the "Brea freshmen" or the Mater Dei Freshman b/c of the schools they attend.
The sad thing about the narrow-minded person who made the list , is that they had the exact same girls on their Preview of Top Freshmen in OC. See Top Underclassman Blog on Dec 8, 2008. This tells me that he already had his mind made up. HE WASN'T EVEN LOOKING AT OTHER FRESHMAN GIRLS. But whats funny is that Glass1/2 Full was denying Lee back then also. Its OK to give the young lady her props.
To Mr Glass half full.. All county freshman team of newspaper writers doesn't count for squat. If you knew anything about the voting process you'd know that coaches "can not" vote for their own players. Which prevents a coach from putting "all his girls on the team", like you are suggesting. The coaches, of their respective league, vote for the players whom they thought were the absolute best in their league. Again take up your beef w/ the coaches.
Chill, they didn't do too much anyway, except for maybe Adams compared to last years fresshies, I could undestand all this gushing if these kids were being recruited.
Need to push your kids when maybe they get MVP!!
3rd eye,you like to twist words.What I siad was that coaches can only recomend theyre players and then make their votes just like allstar teams in youth sports. so of course money lee made 1st team probably along with de phillips whom you never mention , but was probably team MVP and I use the word probably because nothing has been published. as for saying Carlos just went with his preseason picks, well then why is minato from HB on this list at end of season nad not wallace of brea.Lee is a big strong girl in the post{not a 6 footer] and not that versitile. I will get to see her this weekend though, at the tourny at Hope U and Ill let you know what I think on monday.
You act like carlos got this list right - he didn't get any of them right - he made them according to who he listens to the most and then has to do a balancing act to keep these certain coaches happy - just look back at which coaches he spoke to and you'll figure it out. In HBs case Kennedy outscored the other freshman anyway but this freshmans dad kisses the coaches butt and probably Wallace should have made the team even before Spears but carlos has to balance it out for certain coaches trying to keep them all happy. And don't for one second think those coaches don't put down kids as I've heard them.

Dephillipo's game fell off this year. Last year she made all county.. not sure what happened this year.. And can anyone tell me what the criteria of the list is? Or is as "Dude" says?
why would anyone pick minato over wallace??? wallace works hard everytime she's asked to and was a big part of her team when her starters got in foul trouble....HB has one star...Brea had four to start the season, then five when perry came back and she still played alot of minutes...wallace played defense against lewis of mater dei and did well, did minato?

my guess on money lee after this weekend is again, Carlos got it right. If as 3rd eye says de phillipos game tailed off then lee making all league was a favor pick.If she was 1st team then maybe century wasnt that strong after villa park and brea,so the lobbying goes on in league not with sports writers. saw alot of good players at oc elite tour but didnt know who was who other than a hand full of girls. Did meet and talked to a brea player whos going to be a senior and didnt seem real excited about playing next year. reason ? sink and as we all know the recruiting that shoves brea girls to the end of the bench. and this girl was impressive.

The talk about both Sink and Anderson is correct - just keep asking those girls and you'll hear the truth. By the way which teams was Anderson watching? Break out your video and get him in the act.
yep says break out camera. why? C I F has shown they dont care,so really all coaches should show up and do the same . I mean lets start offering tours of our prestine campusus, and great facilities, take their families on 5 star weekends at the ritz ,fly em in from walnut or ontario or where ever,bye Dad a new tractor ect,ect,ect. C IF doesent give a rodents behind.
