this site is always hating on ocean view players. How is not one of the three players not on first team. THey all deserved it. Avery and Anthony are better then the other 2 mater dei players that only mad first team because of the team they are on. I hope they get respected next year by both being in the top 5 players to watch.

What qualifies a player to be recognized for hard work? Is it stats and how far they take their team in the season? Should players with points more than 510 pts for the season, over 40% made from 3pt line, over 90% at the free line, playing over 30 minutes per game for more than 30 games game be also recognized? ...especially if their team goes as far as the final games at the Honda Center...Shouldn't they at least get mentioned????? How did some of these players listed in this ranking earn such recognition? Their contributions were not depended upon in many games they played and their stats showed that games were won without them. Who select these players? Does a team coach play a major role in recommending players? Is it the public or is it the register and Steve Fryer's team which might have overlooked great players due to preference of coaches and teams? Just wondering as we cannot understand? I guess the best of the best will show up and last even if they are missed by the media and those who do get pushed by the media; some run with the hype others just transfer later to lesser programs. Where are UCLA and USC in the NCAA? Should these coaches continue to listen and use these types of info or hype to help decide who comes to their program?

Hating on Ocean View? what division are they in again? How many kids actually live in Huntington Beach that are on the team. I know it is legal to choose your high school but please if you know you are talented choose a high school that competes against Div 1 or at least Div 2. all season and not only selected games and then play Westminster and the other neighborhood schools that are in their league and then expect almost every starter selected for first or second team It won't and shouldn't happen.

Fan above should seriously be thankful for the mention. OC varsity covered your team well throughout the playoffs! I agree it's over the top on the MD players but who cares, the kids know their status and they are still in the top 20 in the county! That's a great honor!

I think Mater Dei lost to MLK by double digits and MLK just barely escaped losing to Ocean View in the Nike Extravaganza. Lucky for the rest of the Div 3 schools that the Wear twins from HB transfered to Mater Dei and didn't stay in HB. If they had the twins that number one ranking would have never been lost. Here's the OV team you could field. Wear twins, Avery Johnson, Anthony Brown, Billy Keller, Ryan O, Mason Jones, total domination.

    Dear bballlover,
The Wears live in the Marina HS boundry and Anthony Brown lives in Los Amigos boundry. The three James brothers live in the Los Amigos boundry as well. What a team Los Amigos could have had. Wow....just imagine.

  • concernfan says:

To all...stop wondering about the twins! Just too much hype from the media. Lets see if they can hang at UNC. WIll they be like Taylor King???

  • Just curious says:

Really, my only question is who really is Steve Fryer??? Has this guy ever played basketball before?? Just because he is a sports writer, what really makes him qualified to judge an all county team. We can all read books and think we know the game, but come on, any real player knows, unless you have really played the game, you don't know the game!
